Buttons on the Beach

Another beachy page from me, I used some Tando Stars and layered my buttons on top of them for embellishments.  I recently got some gelatos (a pastel that you can use with water if you haven't discovered them yet), so I used them to draw and then paint the circles, printed smaller circles and then smudged them in on my stars and buttons, the colour takes really well on the chipboard and I like that you can add 2 colours on top of each other without them running into each other...so the heart has some silver and red on it.  As the buttons are the top layer of my little stack I also added some rock candy on the top to add a little extra sparkle.

LAST POST FROM OUR AUGUST GDT - CAROL FOX

Today sees the last post from Carol Fox who has been our very first GDT - we would like to Thank Carol for joining us this month and for creating some stunning pieces.... to finish off her stint here she has created this gorgeous post:-

Button Up Bracelet

This week is Button Week and I have made a bracelet using a couple of Grab bags of Buttons.

This is what I did

·       I used the dotted star mask and applied grunge paste through the mask to both sides of my button pieces. I used the smaller buttons from two grab bags as these were a nice size to join with jump rings.
·       When the Grunge paste was dry I painted both sides with cream paint.
·       When this was dry I used various colours of treasure gold to colour and give my buttons a metallic finish.
·       I now joined them together with jump rings, adding a clasp and a small bead to the ends, so if the bracelet was adjusted for the length when being worn, it would have a dangly end and look more finished, you can see this in the following photo.

This is my last project this month as a guest on the Tando blog and I would like to thank Di, Carol and the rest of the Tando team to making me feel so welcome. I have really enjoyed my stay here.  Carol Xx

Wow what a fab use of those grab bags - Thank You for joining us this month Carol xx

As its Wednesday there is a new post at the Tando Challenge blog - do come along and join us, there is still time to take part this month.

Hair clips with lots of buttons: Buttons week

Hello my dear crafty friends!
Irit is here and this time with some wearable art: hair clip made with  some ribbons and a lot of Tando Creative buttons.
All buttons were heat embossed with a lot of powders and arranged with a hot glue gun and this is a piece you can use if you are like 7 years old... Or less... and have a long hair.

Free for all week

Hello my dear crafty friends!
Irit is here again and this time with a very small, but lovely ATC.
It was all stamped with VLVS stamps and then painted with Faber Castell DMC Gelatos, but something was missing. So I added this painted part of Tando compass and this was the final touch I needed to make this project.

See how much the simple chipboard can change your project? All you need is Tando piece and some love too...
See you in a few days with more inspiration!

Free for All - BROOCH

Hi, I wonder how many of you realised that you can make really sturdy jewellery with chipboard?  I have made a brooch using a piece that is really intended to hang on a chain.  Its around 1 and a half inches in size and you get 3 in a pack.

I have used a Tando Creative Jewellery Heart to make a brooch. This comes with a top and bottom section that you glue together. For the top I have painted in Pebeo Studio Acrylic in Titanium White. When that was dry I watered down a little of the Mars Black and, using a fine brush, dabbed some onto the white to make it look like it was marbelled. For the base I painted it in Mars Black then glued the two pieces together. Taking the Pebeo Prisme Fantasy in Onyx ( so pretty when its dry) and using a dropper I filled the centre of the heart. When it was all dry I added Crackle Accents to the outer piece and Glossy Accents to the inside. While the Glossy Accents was still wet I added a bead. The padlock and key Charms plus the crown were coloured with a Letraset Promarker in Black and added using a jump ring and the Crown added to the other side. I backed the whole thing with felt and added a brooch finding.

Thank you so much for taking a look, HUGS, Karen xxx

Carol Fox - GDT and Challenge Day

Today we have our guest designer Carol Fox showing us this lovely project as part of our "Free for All" week:-

Show me a top hat, and I will show you the Mad Hatter, I do have a never ending love of all things Alice so it seemed obvious to me to choose this for my Free for all piece this week.

What I did

·       Before I assembled the hat at all I used the cogs mask and texture paste all over it to give it lots of texture.
·       I now followed the instructions and glued it all together, I discovered that although this does fit together very easily and all the pieces do slot together neatly you do need to be patient, especially when gluing the brim on, gluing down one or two tabs at a time, letting these dry and them doing more, this way you get a nice shape. I also used a quick drying glue.

·       I now painted the whole hat black. I used a thick paint as this soaks into the card less and you only need to give it one coat. Once this was dry I highlighted the cogs created by the texture paste using treasure gold.
·       I patterned a length of ribbon using the burning rubber stencil and some red paint, I would this around the hat as a hat band.
·       I coiled a long length of wire and then wound this around the hat, finishing it at the top by positioning it in the clock hands as shown in the photo below.

·       I added various tando shapes that I had painted with a selection of paints and stickles, positioning them as shown in the photos.

I used

Mad Hatters Top Hat Kit
Set of 6 decorative Clock Hands
Cogs Grab Bag
Arrows Grab Bag

I will have my last project as guest designer to share with you next week, Carol x

Great project Carol - don't forget as its Wednesday we have a new project over on the Challenge blog - hope you join us...

Free For All - To Do List Board

This week  we are having another Free For All week and I have made up the ~{Memo/Chalk Board}~ although I haven't used all of the pieces.

I made a  painty background with Fresco paints and stamps and painted through the ~{Random Circles Mask}~.
At this point I made the border up, but no matter what I did with it, I just wasn't happy so I decided to bin that idea and just continue with the base!
I then added a border and some white painty dots and white pen dots. I painted 'LIST' and doodled a border before adding Glossy Accents.

As I wasn't using the Chalkboard paint, I took one piece from the chalk holder and cut it in half and painted it. I added rub on letters and doodles. I have stuck magnets onto the backs of these and the board itself so I can attach notes. I used the Papermania magnets as they are really strong considering how small they are.

Keep looking on the blog this week to see what the other teamies have made.

Follow your dreams : Andi Skinner week

Hello my dear crafty friends and welcome to our Andi Skinner week!
Irit is here again  and I hope to inspire you a bit this week with my new project.
This time it's my new Mixed Media canvas all made with a lot of stamps,  a lot of Andi's gorgeous masks and even more mediums ,mists and colours.

I used black gesso for the  stencilled images and white gesso for two more  masks and then misted it  with a lot of Lindy's Stamp  Gang mists around. The more- the better. Some embossing powders were added over the  upper  mask  too. Then I just stamped (VLVS) randomly and a lot.
As my last touch  I added just one embellishment cluster with more paint and mists and this was it.

Here are all stencils I used for this MM project

See you again in a week or so with more Tando inspiration!

More Andy Skinner!

Hello , its Karen here today with a bit of Mr Skinner...well not a piece of him but you know what I mean hahaha.  Andy has designed some fantastic masks/stencils that are amazingly versatile and so much fun to work with.

This time I have used a 6x4inch flat canvas and just played!!!!!  First I used the SUNBURST mask to add some Texture Paste then lots of layers of DecoArt paints on the background until I was happy (fingers are good for this).  Then EVOLUTION was stencilled on with a dark blue acrylic and Treasure Silver rubbed around.  I die cut some 'silver' metal to add to the bottom and wires were threaded for the top.  Far better than the card I made first that I rejected (see my blog) hahaha!

If you haven't used any of Andy's masks then take a look *here* at all the designs...they are fabulous!!!!  Here are the ones that I used...

Thank you for popping by, please come back tomorrow to see what else we have been up to with Andy's products.  take care, HUGS xxx

Andy Skinner's Skulldugerry Tag !

Hello, its Coco today with a bit of offbeat humour to illustrate our theme this week !
I chose to alter a Manila Tag Size 8 using two fabulous stencils designed by Andy Skinner: Skullduggery and Accessorise. Nothing special to say about the first one, it is just FAB by itself. But the second one is very useful for adding some finishing touches or embellishments, like my little cat at the bottom and my hat, aren't they?

For the skulls, I used Grunge Paste and applied several layers of paint (Little black dress, French Roast, and a mix of SnowFlake and Nougat) and Crackle Glaze. I also put a coat of Crackled Accents over the top of the biggest one only, for fun and to compare the crackling effects - Both are nice, Yum !!. Finally I highlighted some parts of them using some Treasure Gold Copper and Sapphire I applied with my finger.
For the cat I directly painted it over the tag beside side-on skull in acrylic black (I used Little black dress Fresco paint) with a piece of cut'n'dry, and for the hat I first painted it on a separate piece of of watercolour paper and then cut it out and glued it at the more funny place I found.
My background was done using mainly Dylusions Bubblegum ink and Vanilla paint applied over the super cute Dotted Star stencil from my teammate Kaz. I really love this mask too !
I used Andy Skinner's Stencils:
A Skinner Stencil/Mask - Skullduggery

A Skinner Stencil/Mask - Accessorise

and  also this one from Kaz:
Mask - Dotted Star

Hope you like my tag a bit special ha ha ha, as written on it near the skulls... I sent it last week to a lovely artist lady for her birthday, I think many of you know and appreciate her much... She LOVES the PIIIIIINK colour ! Guess who she is... You can always pop up on my blog to get the answer.
But if you do not have much time, better come back here tomorrow to see more Andy Skinner inspiration !
Thanks for stopping by today ! xxx

Andy Skinner week - Tuesday

Today sees the second post from our Guest Designer for August, Carol Fox...

Carol has created this gorgeous piece:-

It’s the week to share our  Andy Skinner  makes on the Tando Blog so as the guest this month I have this to share with you. I did not actually have any Andy Skinner products at all so I ordered two of the mask to use: Skullduggery and Incognito.
I decided to go with a gothic steampunk look for my finished item, imagining a witch tenderly stroking her spell book thinking of the evil within as I used  a Neil Walker book cover kit and lots of grunge paste to bring my idea to life.

What I did

·       I laid the cut out piece on top of one of the main board pieces and drew inside the cut out to give me placement for my skull stencil. I then used grunge paste through the stencil to make the image.
·       I also us d grunge paste and the  Incognito mask to give texture to the cut out chipboard front piece. Once these were both dry I glued them together.
·       I coloured these and my separate cogs, clock hands and bookplate using various paints, inks and treasure gold until I was happy with their appearance.
·       I glued them all into place on the book front, adding a word behind the book plate.

I decided to bind my book with book rings as this way the cover can be used as an ongoing item, just adding new pages as required, I do hate it when you go to lots of effort when making  a book only to run out of pages to use and then wonder what to do with it when it is not usable anymore.

I added pages to my book carrying on the gothic theme to the inside pages using the skull stencil on the pockets I made.

I used

Tando book kit: Squared off
Cogs Grab Bag (I used 2 bags)
Set of 6 Decorative Clock hands
Andy Skinner Masks: Skull duggery, Incognito

ANDY SKINNER WEEK

This week our theme is:- "ANDY SKINNER" - Tando Creative produce a range of Andy Skinner designed products and what better way to showcase them all than by the DT and our Guest DT showing you their art...

What better way to kick start the week with Andy Skinner himself! - this is Andy's post:-

"Some of you may know that the last online Book of Secrets workshop this year has just started and bookings will stop as of 12pm tonight.
Putting this workshop together is where my love affair with Tando Creative chipboard first started, I loved the thickness and the way it held up to everything I chucked at it... and I mean everything!
My next discovery was the fantastic durability of their stencils and as they are manufactured from 350 micron plastic, I have never had one tear yet and they are used by so many in workshops around the country each week that they certainly get put through their paces, hence when I decided to design my own stencils Tando Creative was the first and only place I headed.

So I decided to make a special Book of Secrets but with a difference to start this week of, lets call it a book of parts.... Tando parts!

I wanted the book box to to look as if it had been discovered laying on the sea bed or in a wreck for hundreds of years,  this was achieved by applying many layers of Decoart Americana and Traditions acrylic paint.

In this close up you should be able to see the many textures and layers going on giving a decayed appearance.

For the reverse of the book I decided to apply Decoart Modeling paste through some of my stencils, you get a lovely smooth surface with great detail,  also great depth can be achieved because of the amazing thickness of the stencils.

After a few washes of acrylic paint it was antiqued by painting with Raw Umber and wiping it back before the paint was dry."

What a fabulous start to the week - A big Thank You to Andy for joining us today.

Don't forget to pop back tomorrow for another great piece.
