Another Faery Door

I really love the idea of a Faery Door tucked away somewhere is a quiet corner of my home!  A place where Faeries can come and go undisturbed :-D  I haven't used the new kit for my door but wanted to show you that you can just as easily make one using other Tando shapes.  My door itself is made from a LARGE ARCH and the surround cut from a piece of a CHIPBOARD SHEET which come is different sizes.

All the paints used are DECOART MEDIA FLUID ACRYLICS.  The door itself has several layers of paint which has been dabbed on to give texture and to make it look worn.  When dry I added a layer of CLEAR CRACKLE GLAZE.  I used some DECOART TEXTURE SAND through the OBLONG SQUARE LONG mask around the door frame before adding paint and a layer of clear glitter paint.  The door hinges have been cut from one of the LOCKS & LATCHES and painted copper to match the door wooden doorknob.  I added some painted LEAVES and paper flowers to finish.

If you love the idea of making a Faery Door for yourself or the children in the family then please do and add it to our draw!  More information is on this months tab at the top of the blog page.  We would love to see what you make!!!!

Thank you so much for looking today, Take care, Karen x

Book Cover Week - Wonky Street Chipboard Book

Hi Tando fans! Dana here today sharing a colorful chipboard book for the Book Cover theme this week. This book was super fun to put together! It feels great to finally finish this book! (I had the cover complete back in May!) I'm ready to move onto this dreamy street! Who wants to come with?!

I paired Susan K. Weckesser whimsical patterned paper and stamps with the Wonky Street Book Cover Kit designed by Neil Walker. I painted the cover with Ranger acrylic paint and added some textured designs with the Susan K. Weckesser A Little Bit Washi Stamp Set. I secured the houses to the book cover with adhesive foam for added dimension. I added numbers to each house with digits from the Arthur Number Set. The Mini People were the perfect size for this piece. I colored them with purple mist. The sentiment from Susan's What's Up Gnomey? Stamp Set was the perfect finishing touch.

I used twine and a Secret Belgian Binding technique to secure the front and back covers to the spine. I learned this technique from a 3-part video series that I found HERE.

I stitched three sections of colored cardstock and patterned paper into the binding of the book creating a total of 30 pages, which should be plenty for me to document all the moves I make as a military wife!

You can find this chipboard and more in the Tando Creative Retail Store! We'd love to have you join the Book Cover Challenge! To be in with a chance of winning some great Tando goodies of your choice, please make a piece based on our weekly themes and link your project, not just your blog, using the inlinkz tool located at the top of the Tando Blog. You don't have to use any Tando product, but, if you do, you will be entered into the draw twice! There are no limits to how many times you enter, however, we do request that you only enter your piece for 5 challenges. We look forward to seeing your creations!

Thanks for stopping by today!

Book Cover

Hi, Liz here with a Book Cover I have done using one of the squared off book cover kits, chipboard pieces and some of the Deco Art media too,

I used a couple of the stencil/ masks on the long length at both sides using modeling paste, then stuck the squares onto the corners, I then painted the whole piece with white gesso, when dry I added some dry wall tape here and there for added texture,
I then sprayed on top with shimmer misters dabbing with a paper towel as I heat dried the colours, this gives a little texture too,
I kept adding bits of colour till I liked the result, on top of this here and there I took a small  clear stamp and holding it in my hand placed it where I wanted to add the design,
The middle section I began by layering up the bookplate that comes with the kit, on top of that I added some metal embellishments, chipboard pieces, a flower, light bulb, keys and chipboard letters, when adhered and set i coated the whole thing with white Gesso then painted on top with silks and waxes, on the letters I also used the same clear stamp with black archival ink,

Memories: Book covers with Irit

Hello my dear crafty friends and welcome to our Book  cover  kits week.
I love to make mini albums and with Tando book  cover kits its so easy and fun and gorgeous.
So this is my book made with Frame  kit in those vintage colors. I used crackle medium over the cover and back cover and used Tando Poppy mask to make those poppies inside the frame with texture paste and copper pigmented powder.
This cover is so rich that I just added a " drop" of embellishments: one single metal corner and one single metal  button. The small title was made with stickers. I know that I could use some Tando  chipboard words over it, but I wanted to show the cover, so I  made the title as small as possible.

Book Covers week - Squared Off........

Hi all,

I love book-binding and this weeks challenge provided the PERFECT excuse to try out a different binding technique that has been on my 'to try' list for ages.

Neil Walker's book cover kits are just right for the binding I wanted to use as the spine is separate to the covers.........

The binding is the 'Secret Belgian Binding' if you fancy trying it, I used instructions from a book in my collection but there are plenty of tutorials available on You-Tube too.
The binding takes a little patience and fiddling around but it's well worth the effort as its' one of the few techniques that give you a book that will open completely flat.

Here is the kit I used (Squared Off)........

Book Covers with Dee

Hi everyone I hope you are well and getting time to be crafty.
Our topic for the week is book covers.
I started with painting the main part with Deco media paints.
I used blue colour washes over the first layer which had been
lightly stamped with Andy Skinners industrial stamps.
I used a compass stamp from my stash to place in the
circular hole.
This was glued on to a Tando circle prior to being glued into place.
I tried to capture the old gold gleam that comes off the aged metal
the photo's don't quite capture it.
I used a metal compass that I had in my stash to go in the area
underneath the main focal point.
I had put crackle paste around the edges and painted them
I highlighted these with treasure gold. I did do the back
but will show you that in a different post one thing I
learnt is if you are doing a book always paint
the base on both front and back at the
same time.As they are slightly different
colours.

BOOK COVER WEEK

Hello!  This week we are looking at BOOK COVERS.  Tando sell a wide variety of these for you to decorate/alter.  There are 2 different sized kits from Neil Walker, which include a front, back and a spine as well as extra pieces for the front!  We also have Word Books where you can choose any word you would like up to 7 letters.  There are our own RING BINDERS, complete with board pages, as well as a selection of MINI BOOKS in different designs ( the Christmas one is a favourite!)  Yes...lots to choose from!!!!

I have chosen to use one of Neil's designs - a 6x6 kit called RANDOM 3.

The bases have been gesso'd then sprayed with Media Misters (Orange, Primary Yellow, Primary Cyan & Primary Magenta) to create a really bright background.  The layered piece has been painted with Media Fluids (Primary Magenta).  Isn't there a lovely sheen??? And so vibrant!!!!

Instead of using the spine provided I have bound mine with a Bind-It-All using black rings to match the black car I used for the pages.  For the letters I sprayed some thin card the same as the backgrounds and stamped & embossed the letters before cutting out and applying.

If you like books and fancy giving one a makeover or making one from scratch then please join in with us.  You will find a link at the top of the blog page for more info about how to win a prize!

Thank you so much for looking, Take care, Karen x

"Change of Season" - Anything goes week with Lisa

Hi folks and welcome to the final day of the anything goes week at Tando Creative.
Well the summer season is definitely over!!! I'm not too sure if it even started... But I dedicated this week creation to the changing seasons and the fact that Autumn is upon us.

I decided to make a canvas using the gorgeous leaves from the Tando collection and concentrating on autumn colours like red, orange, yellow, brown, copper and gold.

I built up loads of texture on the canvas using texture paste, tissue, lace and ribbon then give it a coat of gesso.

I then built up the collage using heart cogs mix, compass duo, leaves pack A, leaves group -pointed, Tando Mini's - leaves 2 and the branches from the mini pack of birds and branches.

I added layers of acrylic paint, sprayed mica powders mixed with water, embossing powder and gilding flakes to add texture and build up the colour.

Here are all the Tando products I used...

Compass Duo               Heart Cogs Mix Large                    Mini pack of Birds and Branches

Tando Mini's - Leaves 2                        Leaves group - pointed                  Leaf Pack A 3 Shapes

More pics on my blog here if you want to take a peek. Hope to see you over at the challenge.

Toodles for now.... Lisa xxx

An Altered Clock Anything goes by Dee

Hi Guy's I have the fabulous Tando Clock for you today I
made this a couple of weeks ago and am trying to
remember how I made it.
I know it was all Deco Art Media line and Tando clock and stencils.
Three of the segments were decorated with black paste put through the Tando
Giovanna stencil and left to dry.
Six Segments were put in two different Tim Holtz embossing folders.
The first was painted with Titan buff and Burnt Umber once dry
I used Deco Art Antiquing cream patina, and knocked back
with a damp cloth.
Prussian Blue Hue was used to paint the second set of segments
Tim Holtz English Red Oxide Antiquing cream was then
used and knocked back when dry.
Prussian Blue Hue was used with white tinting base over the black modelling paste.
Black Antiquing cream was used over the painted segment
then knocked back with a damp cloth.
For the fourth segment's I learnt this technique in Andy skinners online
workshop Time worn. So am unable to share with you.
The numbers and the centre piece were embossed with copper.
Treasure gold and copper metallic were used to highlight
the textures. The outer edge of the clock was finished off with
crackle glaze once dried I painted it with burnt umber,
then rubbed with treasure gold.
All segments were coated with Andy's dirty wash technique.
I think I have remembered all the bits you can always ask
if you want to know anything and `I will try
to answer all your questions.
please feel free to let me know what you think.
Cheers Dee x
