Technique Binder - by Hannah Oxberry

Beginning next week the Tando Team are hosting 24 weeks of Play Day Inspirations, I am so excited to be involved and kicking things off  with a Facebook Live on Thursday 28th February at 19.00 GMT over on the Tando Creative Zone - I hope you can join me!

Here's a closer look at the tag Binder I have created ready for my inspiration tags.

Rather than conceal the greyboard, I decided to make it a feature. I have brayered over the binder in layers of grey chalky finish paints to build a textured effect. I also added a brayered layer of white as a contrast. More texture was added by way of crackle paste, applied roughly with a palette knife.

I chose to used the wording "techniques" down one side of the binder, the letters have been painted black and crackled with glaze. And I have finished the binder with circle stamps in jet blank ink.

The inside of the binder I kept simple, painted in a satin black. I have begun painting my tags with my favourite techniques and can use this as the perfect reference tool.

I hope you have enjoyed the project and I look forward to seeing you for the Play Day Inspirtions soon!

Techniques Journal - By Jane Royston

Hello!

I am really excited to be a part of this project with Tando Creative and the rest of the design team bringing 24 weeks of technique and journaling tags to you all.

To get it started the design team have been sharing their binders and here is the techniques journal that I decorated...

I started by creating the background using a brayer to add layers of acrylic paint.  Detail was added using background stamps with archival ink and then gold paint through the long rings stencil.  I did the same on the inside as well...

To create my title for the journal I decided to use both the inside and outside pieces of the words.  They were painted with black gesso then highlighted with gold gilding wax...

I wanted to add some decoration that matched the idea of it being a journal about techniques, so stamped and cut out the paintbrushes and pencil from the Tim Holtz Crazy Things set, which I then coloured and added to the bottom of the journal...

Here are the items used:

* Tando Creative Binder and Tags
* Tando Creative Long Rings Stencil
* Decoart Mediums
* Decoart Fluid Acrylics

The 24 weeks will be getting underway next week from Thursday 28th Feb at 7pm and will be a mix of Facebook lives, videos and photo tutorials, I hope you will be joining in!

Happy crafting,

Jane xx

Techniques Journal - by Nikki Killinger

Morning everyone,

We are gearing up for 24 weeks of playing in our Journals/Technique Binders, starting Thursday 28th February at 19.00 GMT.  These will be in the form of step by step articles, Facebook lives, or video, and we hope you can join us in the Tando Creative Zone each week to see them.

I created the cover of my journal by putting modelling paste through a cogs stencil on the back, and then painting the whole journal in black Gesso.  Some paper from Stamperia was added to the front, in a random edged manner, and further stencilling was added to 'ground' the paper & design.

I painted washes of Prussian Blue Hue, Quinacridone Gold and touches of Raw Umber over the paper, cogs and words.

I decided to use mine as a techniques binder, and painted the words in Pthalo Green Blue, highlighted in Metallic Lustre, and glazed with Triple Thick Glaze.

The whole of the rest of the binder was also highlighted with Metallic Lustre, picking out all the modelling paste detail.

For my Facebook Live on 14th March, I will be showing a couple of  'faux' techniques similar to those below.

Don't forget to come and join us if you haven't already, in Tando's Creative Zone where it will all be happening, and check out the rest of the team's interpretations of their folders on the blog this week.

Best Wishes,

Nikki K.

Love and Hearts week- Vintage tag by Monika

Good Morning all!
It is the last day of the 'Love and Hearts' week, and I thought I would share this vintage, romantic tag with you.

I have started with running size 10 tag through embossing folder to get a nice background texture, Then I have used Heavy Gel Medium to glue a die cut, metal embellishments and pearls.

Using modelling paste and crackle stamp I have added some texture to my heart embellishment.
I have glued mini frame and metal padlock to it.

Whole tag was covered with gesso, once dry I have added washes of fluid acrylic paints. Next step was to dry brushing with white paint to slightly 'calm down' the bright colours. I have used the brown paint to age the edges. Last step was to add some splatters of paint.

Products used:

Decoart products:
 Gesso, Heavy Gel Medium, Modeling Paste, Chalky finish-everlasting, fluid Acrylics-primary magenta, quinacridone red, raw umber, translucent white,

I really hope you like my inspiration
See you next time,
Monika x

Love and Hearts Card

For this week's theme of Love and Hearts I have made a birthday card for my dad:

As seems to be the case with all of my creating lately, I've given the heart from the {Distressed Hearts Pack} multiple layers of acrylic paint and used some crackle paint before I've come across something I liked. I've also added a text stamp, paint dots and doodles onto the heart.

I took a heart charm and altered the colouring by adding {Quinacridone Gold} and rubbing it off slightly.

For the background, I stamped onto the card and then inked through the {Giraffe Mini Mask} before adding some paint splats and a computer printed greeting.

Love and Hearts - Love With All Your Heart

Hello!

A fab theme this week on the Tando Creative blog for Valentine's, so I went mad with the hearts but decided to give them a grungy twist...

I started by using this heart that came from the inside of one of the heart layered frames.
The holes were added with a crop a dile and then I built up the piece using Tando mini hearts, art balls, micro beads and texture sand paste.

Once this had all dried overnight I painted over the piece with crackle paint and then added some crackle paste to areas...

When the crackles had fully developed I added my colour in layers.

I started with watered down gold acrylic then some quinacridone gold.
These were allowed to drip into different areas then once dry I added some brown, gamboge and scarlet brusho powders.
To continue building up the layers of colour I added gold gilding wax and also dry brushed on some blue paint.  I kept going with this until I was happy with the outcome...

To finish off the piece I added some rusty wire around the heart as well as to the holes as a hanger.  I took one more mini heart and painted it with pyrole red acrylic, coating it with liquid glass and adding a gem.

Finally I used one of the Tim Holtz small chat stickers that fit the theme...

Here are the products that I used:

* Tando Layered Frame Heart
* Tando Grab Bag of Hearts
* Decoart Media Line Mediums
* Decoart Media Line Fluid Acrylics
* Brusho Powders
* Rusty Wire

I hope you are enjoying all the heart themed projects this week from the team, thank you for looking.

Happy crafting,

Jane xx

Love & Hearts Theme Week - with Nikki K.

Morning everyone,

Today I'm sharing a tag made for the 'Love & Heart's' theme week.  I thought I'd go with the 'secret admirer' slant,  because if I have any, they are definitely secret!!

I put some modelling paste through a stencil, onto the Tando tag.  This was then given a coat of grey paint that I mixed with Tinting Base and Carbon Black paint.  I covered that in White Antiquing Cream, and rubbed back to give depth to the background.  Some red and black stamping in paint finished this off.

The Tando heart was painted in Red, and stamped.  Over this I put a layer of Crackle Glaze.

A book plate, numbers, bolts and nuts were painted in rust colours, and a sentiment stamped for the book plate.

I added rusty wire to the top of the tag, and shaped the top like a little rustic heart.  I didn't glue the heart down, so it moves as you move the tag, which is quite nice.

Hope you like it and can join the rest of the team this week for more inspiration.

Best Wishes,

Nikki K.

Love and Hearts- Fiona.

Morning all Fiona Here with a Love and Hearts themed Artist Trading Block.

I die cut the block with Tando Grey Board and assembled. Embossed wood grain watercolour cardstock was given a wash of media fluid acrylic then the grain texture highlighted with a distress crayon and then cut to size and attached to all four sides and top of the cube. Tando Grey board Hearts and the Faceted Heart die once assembled were then Given the Rusty treatment with DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylics in Paynes Grey and Quinacrodone Gold Then edged with a black Archival Ink Pad. The Hearts were then attached to sturdy Florists wire of Varying lengths before being inseted into the block. Hemp Twine was then wound around the wires and finished with a bow with ends frayed for a rustic feel. The base was created by using two Tando Grey Board circles attached to a piece of cardboard tubing cut to size to create a bobbin. This was then painted with DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylic in Raw Umber and Hemp Twine wound around the bobbin before gluing to the cube. To finish Scrabble Tiles were edged in Potting Soil Archival Ink and then attached in place on the block.

Love and Hearts Flourish Tag

 Hi everyone, sorry its been a while I have a tag for you today for our Hearts & Love week.  I really went for the flourish look with all of it. I stencilled texture paste followed with graphite paste. On the Tando heart I triple embossed and flourished that too I hope you all like flourishes.

There is also crackle paste underneath the flourished heart. you would never believe that the colour under the white is red and dioxide purple. A lot of dry brushing with gesso followed by emphasising the flourishes with black water colour.

 The Love word was glued onto a painted cut down drink stirer it was then gives a coat of clear crackle glaze. Once dried I rubbed in Umber antique paste to emphasise the cracks. all the graphite paste was rubbed with pewter treasure gold to make it pop.

I hope you enjoyed my post i am glad to be back creating again.
Cheers Dee x
