May Colour ATC

This is the colour theme for this month:

I've continued with the {Artist Trading Coins}:

Everything had a coat of {White Gesso} and then I added a base layer of paint to the ATC followed by a partial layer of {White Crackle Paste}

When that was dry I watered down a drop of {Quinacridone Magenta} and rubbed it into the cracks, then wiped the paint from the surface. I've painted, stamped and doodled on the rest of the background.

I've painted one of the flowers from the {Flowers With Stems Grab Bag}, added doodles and edged with oil pastels.

I've finished off with a word cut from a book.

Heart Tag with Texture Paste by Hannah Oxberry

It's Texture Paste week here on the Tando Creative blog! I love to use texture pastes within my mixed media work, the ways it can be applied - along with the looks you can create, are so varied.

For today's project, I thought I would share this tag where I have incorporated a few different texture techniques.

The base of the tag is made up of a few different layers; paints and washes form the backdrop. Stamped images add detail and aid the theme, while papers add texture and further emphasise the theme. I have also coloured modeling paste with paints and drawn this through a stencil of the word "Paris".

For the central heart motif, I roughly applied texture paste across the surface using a palette knife. By using washes, followed by dry brushing - I can really highlight and draw out the texture created by the paste.

I applied this same technique to the number 2, as well as dry brushing the whole of the tag to add a vintage feel.

Dragonfly Grunge Media Board By Fiona.

Morning all

The theme on the Tando Blog this week is " Texture Paste"
I love creating with all kinds of texture pastes in my projects and this week was no exception.

I created my texture by first giving the media board a coat of DecoArt Tinting Base. Modelling paste was then applied through the Tando Long Flourish Stencil. DecoArt Crackle paste was the applied using a pallet knife. When all the Texture pastes were dry layers of DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylics were applied and wiped back till I was happy with the result. A die cut Dragonfly was given layers of  Fluid Acrylics to tone in. A Die cut Book plate and some bolt heads were given a rusty treatment assembled and applied to the media board. The Dragonfly was then layered at a jaunty angle on top of the book plate. To finish a stamped sentiment was applied using an Andy Skinner Stamp.

'Shoot for the Stars' Art Journal Cover with Texture Paste by Jane

Hello!

This week on the Tando Creative blog the theme is 'Texture Paste' and I love using all sorts of texture pastes as well as texture in general!  I have been saving the fab art journal starter kit from Tando to create something special with and this was the week!!...

I started by using white modelling paste through the long numbers stencil on the covers, then covering it with white gesso...

Next I added numbers, diamond grid and cogs from Tando along with some pieces that I had cast in resin from moulds.  Underneath some of these I added some gauze.  All of this was stuck down using heavy body gel ...

To create even more texture I added some sand texture paste and art balls...

To even everything out and prepare a base for the colour I painted everything with white gesso...

To complete the cover I added chalky paint from Decoart, metallic paint and gilding wax.  Then faux gems were added along with a sentiment from Bee Crafty...

The pages and cover were finally put together using thread, needle and fab instructions that come with the kit.

Here are the products that I used:

* Art Journal Starter Kit
* Tando Minis - Cogs
Tando Grid - Diamond
* Stencil - Numbers
* Decoart - White Modelling Paste, White Gesso, Sand Texture Paste, Heavy Body Gel
* Decoart - Chalky Finish Paint

There will be more textural inspiration from other members of the design team this week, so I hope you pop back to have a look.

Thank you for looking and happy crafting!

Anything Goes week - Brenda

We have another anything Goes week for you where we share something that we have been working on for Di or for ourselves. Today I have a small media board I made for one of Di's Hochanda shows where she introduced a number of new stencils from Andy Skinner.
I love going over to west coast America and have been lucky enough to drive quite a large part of Route 66 so this brought back great memories. I also thought by using the design on a media board means it could be used for a journal cover.

The Route 66 badge was stencilled onto a piece of leftover painty paper using  cerulean blue, phthalo blue and paynes grey media fluid acrylics.

The quote was stenciled using black modeling paste.

The background was created using a cracked distressed technique I have used before. The blues were chosen to get a retro look.

Hope you have been enjoying AG week.

Have a great weekend.

Anything Goes Mother's Day Distressed Hearts

For this week's Anything Goes theme I'm showing the Mother's Day card I made for my lovely mum.

I took 3 hearts from the {Distressed Hearts} sheet and gave them a random covering of glass bead medium.
Once dry they had a good coat of gesso and then a couple of layers of deep pink acrylic paint.

While the top layer was still damp, I brushed on some gold watercolour powder and then dabbed it back using a wet wipe.

It's all finished off with a strip of washi tape and a computer generated greeting.

Anything goes- Industrial Tag by Monika

Hi!
It's 'Anything goes' week so I thought I would share this project with you today. Eveything I like combined on one tag.

I have started with applying Decoart Modeling Paste through stencil.

Next I have covered entire tag with Chalky Finish paint in Relic. Using clear wax candle I have rubbed the areas I wanted to show through.  For added interest I have also added Weathered Wood medium randomly.

Then a coat of Chalky Finish paint in Yesteryear was painted on. Once dry I have rubbed off the areas coverd with wax to reveal underneath paint.

Nuts, washers and cog were painted with Media Fluid Acrylics in Paynes Grey and Quinacridone Gold and then added on the tag.

I have also applied rusty washes and stamped randomly my favourite Andy Skinner's industrial stamps.

Last step was to coat the whole tag with Ultra-Matte Varnish to finish it off.

I hope you like my inspiration
See you next time
Monika

Floral Grunge by Fiona.

The theme on the Tando Blog this week is 'Flowers'.

Unusual for me to have Flowers in my project but I adapted to fit in with my usual Grungy Style.

I used a stencil to apply modelling paste onto the Tando Rectangle frame. This was given a coat of DecoArt Dazzling Metallics in Iced Espresso and once dry Patina Antiquing cream applied and wiped back.  I then used some papers created with a new technique that I have been experimenting with to cover a piece of grey board to make a backing for the frame. The same paper was then used to stamp the flowers from The Butterfly Poppy Collage stamps from Chocolate Baroque. A quoute was then stamped and applied to the frame insert before assembling and attaching the flower.

Floral Journal Binder by Jane

Hello!

This week on the Tando Creative blog the theme is 'Flowers' so today I am sharing one of the technique tag binders that I have decorated with a very floral theme!

I already had one of the binders decorated for technique tags, but couldn't resist having another one specifically for journal tags.

I started by coating the binder with white gesso then coloured some crackle paint with blue acrylic paint...

Next I used two of the long stencils (numbers and rings) with gesso and gold paint, then used pens to create dots and doodles.

Once this had dried I used a flower stamp set to add my main images to the cover then created some extra on white card to create more layered elements on the top.  I used pens to colour the flowers and added glossy accents to the extra flowers with a touch of fine glitter.

The journal word was painted with black gesso the edged with gold gilding wax.  To complete the cover I used a sticker by Tim Holtz...

For the inside of the binder covers I used the same stencils but changed the colours around...

These are the products that I used:

* Technique Tag Binder
* Long Stencils - Numbers; Rings
* Decoart - Fluid Acrylics; Crackle Paint

Thank you for looking and happy crafting!

April Colour ATC

I'm continuing with the {Artist Trading Coins} for the colour themes:

I used {White Modelling Paste} through the {Arrows Stencil} and when this was dry gave everything a coat of {White Gesso}.

I've added some text washi tape in places, then added acrylic paints to colour. I added the next layer of colour with Oil Pastels, then added doodling.

I painted an arrow from the {Mini Arrows} pack and gave it a generous coating of {Clear Liquid Glass}.

It's finished off with a stamped word.

Gasolene Alley Tag - Brenda

I love using a colour palette for inspiration and this time I had a new stencil as well as this tag was for one of Di's Hochanda shows.
Thestencil is a new one from Andy Skinner.

So here's how my muse took me.

Process Steps
1. Cover tag with DecoArt decou-page paper - I used text from Victorian Romance. Adhere with matte medium and seal the surface of the paper with it. When dry sand back the edges to get rid of any rough edges.

2. Paint a layer of  gesso, black and white mixed together to create a light grey  over the tag and wipe back to reveal some of the text.

3. Stamp some designs over the thicker gesso areas using watering can archival ink and scrape some white gesso over the tag with a palette knife and add a very small edging with it too using the side of the palette knife.

4.  When dry daub, spritz and dribble some paint through. I used quinacridone violet mixed with titanium white and also cerulean blue mixed with paynes grey and titanium white to get two more colours from the photo palette.

5. Blend some black geso through the stencil on the tag to look like an advert.

6. Use a stabilo pencil and wet brush around the edge of the tag to add a 'frame' it.
7. Stamp and cut out a vintage car and the fuel vendor to add as embellishments.

8. Give it a coat of matte varnish.

There are quite a few new stencils in the range from Andy and they are available in the shop.

Thanks for stopping by.

hugs Brenda xxx
