Anything Goes Week - by Hannah Oxberry

Happy New Year! Welcome to my first Tando blog of 2019, it's "Anything Goes" Week so here is a grungy project featuring my favourite rusty technique.

My project focuses on some of my go to design elements; hearts, cogs and rust!
The large heart substrate offers something a little bit different on which to build a design, it has been painted in layers of chalky finish with areas rubbed back to give a distressed look. Paper elements have been added as well as Crackle Paste. A wash of Paynes Grey and Quin. Gold ties the layers together.

The main design element of the piece comes in the form of a rusty clock piece. It has been given a rusty treatment with layers of Texture Sand Paste and Media Fluid Acrylics. An acrylic round gives a clear window to the centre of the clock piece. Using a greyboard circle and ring to sandwich the acrylic, a hollow has been formed where clear beads have been captured. These clear beads add movement and texture to the piece.

The layers built up on the heart substrate add to the grungy feel of the piece, and the papers used reflect the sentiment conveyed.

I hope you have enjoyed this project, see you soon!
