Same But Different Week - Layered Coffin with Dana

Hi Tando fans! Happy Halloween! Dana here today sharing my 3D coffin for the Same But Different Coffin theme this week. I've so enjoyed seeing what my fellow team members have created with the same supplies! We have a couple more projects to share this week to stop by again...if you dare!

I assembled my Layered Coffin with Cobweb Detail and covered the outside with a layer of black crackle paint. I added a canvas skull, keyhole and a bouquet of black roses to the lid and some hinges between the top and bottom layers.

I covered the inside of the coffin with a coat of the same black crackle paint and used the Poppy Mask and some acrylic paint to add colorful flowers to the coffin lid. I lined the coffin base with satin and lace. I colored my skeleton with gesso and Distress Ink and added some glitter glue to the cobweb for a bit of sparkle.

Thanks for stopping by today! Tando offers a wide range of Halloween Chipboard. If you're ready to start your Christmas crafts, check out the fantastic selection of Christmas Chipboard, Christmas Greetings and Specials.

Same but different week... around Coffins !

Hello everyone, this week we have a full week a bit special for you, a "Same but Different" themed for Halloween, and it all revolves around coffins, using either the fab Layered coffin with cobweb detail or the 3D coffinand also the pair of skeletons products manufactured by Tando Creative.

Layered Coffin with cobweb detail

Pair of 3D Coffins

A pair of Skeletons

I really enjoy starting off this week because I had an absolute blast doing this coffin, putting in it this great fine skeleton after altering and painting all the elements… so much fun !!! Here's my take on these two products that can be combined perfectly as you will judge by yourself each day of the week I think !

I started by selecting all the elements I wanted to use, adding a light coat of white Gesso on each of them. From the skeletons pair that comes with two plain and sturdy coffin shapes, I took only one skeleton; I replaced the other elements in their bag for another project. I had also the idea to use my two remaining biggest bats from the set of 3 bats, as they fit wonderfully to such small 3D project, don't they ?...
Once dry I layered a thickish coat of Dreamwaver crackle paste here and there over the top and back of the coffin, as well as upon the edges and the skeleton. It was the first time I used a Dreamweaver textured paste, and…. wow, I really love this crackle medium, you can see how fab the effects are on my last close-up! For the delicate skeleton I used a pin to carefully remove the excess of paste within the holes.
All the shapes of my coffin (i.e. layered coffin with cobweb) have been painted in grey (PA Stone), orange (PA Pumpkin Soup and a few drops of Haystack), and teal (Studio Charcoal Classic Teal). I also sanded a bit some areas, and left a few others white, for a realistic look of a wooden coffin washed up after years in a graveyard ! I glued all the faces except the lid, and edged my coffin with black ink. At the end I also rubbed a bit of Charcoal black using a small cut’n dry piece along the main edges.
My funky bats were painted in charcoal black, embossed (except in the middle) with a mix of remaining powders from my large spooky A3 page you can see again here if you missed it (including the smallest bat of the three!), and adhered to the base.

Here's a photo of the left side of my layered coffin, love the three hinges I made in Grungeboard from my Vintage Valise die and altered for an aged look ... It perfectly close the coffin on its left side (but need a full time to adhere using elastics to solidly maintain the whole !!).

Push open the top....and whats inside haha ??.....

My skellie has on his head a small hat cut out from an old cut'n'dry piece (the black side).

Here's the back side of my coffin. I also decorated it using a set of Crafty Individuals and Tim Holtz stamps and Stazon inks (Pumpkin, Dove Grey and Black Soot) to better adhere to the painted support. As you know, I love building small whimsical scenes and this one - a bit creepy but not too much  - made me smile !

You can find even more photos and details on my blog, pop over on it here if you like my coffin... hope so.

Don't forget to call back again tomorrow for another member of the DT's project...For me, I am really looking forward to discovering some other versions of this great set of products made by my teammates ! Coco xx

A Vintage Wood Box Frame

Hellooo ! As it is a Free for All week, I (Coco) can show you something I made recently for a lady who loves vintage and shabby things. It's an Artemio wood box frame with plexiglas. To tell the truth, I'm not a specialist of  Shabby and Vintage, even if I really love some works of crafty friends who create always exquisite projects in that style ! But for me, it's a bit out of my comfort zone... However, I'm really happy with my frame. Should do it more often maybe... hope you like it.

Reading my last Craft Stamper issue of October (often my bedside book as I miss time to read otherwise), I came across a beautiful Vintage wall hanging by Elisabeth Borer. It was the starting point of my inspiration. I gessoed my frame first, then I chose the same paints she used as they really combine beautifully (i.e. PA Fresco Finish Nougat, Stone, Brown Shed and French Roast). I painted it on all faces and decorated it with a piece of corrugated cardboard - for this one, I painted it also in Stone and next put some brush strokes of brown and pink here and there... also sanded it a bit for a more aged look -, a beautiful Magenta stamped image, various stamped and heat embossed (or punched) leaves, roses, charms, lace, trim and beads... and, of course, several chippies chosen among my Tando's mini grab bags that perfectly complete the scene inside and make gorgeous embellishments (on the top left edge), adding beauty to the whole.

A close-up of my hand-made rose and my lovely bird on its branch above. I used Nougat and Stone to paint it, and added a small touch of  brown paint (Chocolate Pudding) on the edges and a very little drop of dimensional Black enamel to draw its eye... The branch was just painted also in Chocolate to match.
My largest rose is assembled from several punched flowers into watercolour paper and painted using the same set of colours than for my box frame. It takes a bit of time and practice, you must be patient, but well worth doing it !

Another close-up for you of my large butterfly. It was stamped with a text stamp then covered by several translucent or semi-opaque paints. I put a few droplets of Ranger liquid pearls (Mint Green) to end. My small heart received almost the same treatment, except that I used only soft pink paint shades for this latter.

Mini pack of Birds and Branches

Well, it's rather cold today here in France... Hope you have a bit of shiny sun in your land wherever you are ! I wish you a very creative and lovely week-end, see you soon on Monday for another themed week in a totally different style haha !!! xx

Free for All - Masks and layers

It was lovely to receive some of the newer masks to have a play with, and the first I tried out was Andy Skinner Sunburst mask which is a great size for 12 by 12" pages.

I started by scrapping texture paste through the mask and it gives a really nice clean finish, I also like the way the mask draws your eye into the photo too.   I then added some green and brown mist, allowing some of the green to drip down the page.  Next I added layers of paper and then a chipboard star and hexagon button.  I covered them in a thin layer of gelato (pastel) and then added some glossy accents on top with a sprinkling of glitter which just adds a little more sparkle.

Free For All - Meet Batty!

Helloooo!  Its nearly that night when all things creepy are around haha!!!!  Not into it myself but I couldn't help but have a play with Batty from Tando Creative!  He is quite sparkly and his eyes are bright green and luminous...shame that didn't show up in the photograph :-(  But you all have an imagination...

I have made him up to do what bats do...just hang around, even though his wings are open haha!  His body has been embossed and some Treasure Silver added and I added some 'underwings' for him to flap.  If you are into Halloween he would look great hanging around with some pals outside your front door wouldn't he?

Fangs for taking a look today, Take care out there, Karen  xxx

FREE FOR ALL - GDT

Today sees the third piece from Octobers GDT Minna Enqvist

"Free for all was quite hard subject for me and I was wondering what to
do. Beside of scrapbooking, my other important hobby is photography. And
from there I got idea of free view. Beautiful views are for free. We
just have to take the time to really look. And from that idea, I wanted
to build Steampunk Goggles. I really love steampunk style and I have
done something simular in my past, but not for a long time. I started
with attaching everything together with clue. Now, when my project is
ready, I'm also bit wiser. I should have done two separate pieces ready
and then attached them together, so the painting and embossing would
have been easier. I really loved to make this project! It was so much
fun to work with three dimensional project!
My idea was to create worn leather look and metallic look and add them
together. I think it turned out quite nicely!"

Products used: Steampunk Goggles

How fantastic are they? don't forget to pay a visit to Minnas blog for loads of inspiration.

Also, as its Wednesday we have a new piece on the Challenge blog - pop on over and join us....

Things that fly

A little break from bats in exchange for butterflies.  I love the grab bag of chipboard butterflies you get lots in it and they come in 3 slightly different designs.

I covered mine in UTEE (Ultra Thick Embossing Powder) using a melt pot, and just dunking them in. I used pearlescent white and blue embossing powder, then I tried stamping into it with a rubber stamp, but I wasn't happy with the way it looked.  So I melted the stamped ridges on my butterflies away with my heat gun and then sprinkled a little bit of the pearlescent UTEE onto the butterflies, this gave a really nice spotty effect, and as I kept my heat gun pointing at the centre of the butterfly it meant that the embossing powder spread out along the wings of the butterfly.

Flying ATC

I went a bit sideways and made my 'thing that flies' an ATC.

I made an inky background and used one of the faces on the ~{Baroque Mask}~ for the focus. I doodled around it to make it stand out slightly.

I then inked through some letters from the ~{Have Your Say Mask}~ onto a gessoed book page and cut out and doodled those. I stick them onto black card for strength and definition.

Finally I took one set of wings from the ~{Wings and Hearts Set}~ and cut them to make 2 separate wings. They were painted and I've inked and stamped them before inking the edges and doodling.

They were carefully stuck onto the back.

I hope you've enjoyed the week so far, we still have more Flying Things to come.

Every little thing: Fly week

Hello my dear crafty friends!
Irit is here again and this is own Fly week, so as you can sure see there are a lot of flying things over this Mixed Media art piece (also they are stamped, but this piece is full of Tando products)

I glued a lot of Cogs on the lower part of the board, painted and misted over.

Then I added some Tando chipboard letters, those that we usually don't use  and they finished my background.

The big book plate was added as a focal point with a stamped sentiment, heat embossed with black and painted with copper over the heat embossing.
I hope you got a picture of using Tando chipboards as your Mixed Media backgrounds and see you again soon!

FLYING THINGS

Today sees the second piece from this months GDT Minna Enqvist:-

"My 10 years old daughter loves to bake. Her favorite things are
cupcakes and different kind of cakes. We are often making some small
decorations for cupcakes, it just makes it more festive!

For these very simple wrappers I cut spider nets out of paper with my
Silhouette Cameo. After that I added ribbon around the wrapper. Small
bats I covered with embossing powder and after that I added eyes for the
bats. Cupcace wrappers are easy and fun to do and kids love them!

Products used: Grab Bag of Bats
