House of Hearts by Bernadette

House of Hearts by Bernadette

Good Morning Everyone.

As we move closer to Valentine's Day I am making the most of using hearts and creating heart themed makes.  For this project, I have used a house shaped printer tray https://www.tando-creative.co.uk/MPTHOUSE.html some mini hearts https://www.tando-creative.co.uk/TMHEARTS.html a mini clock https://www.tando-creative.co.uk/MNTGSCLCKS.html and a key https://www.tando-creative.co.uk/KEYSSET5.html

I started by choosing a background paper and glued it to the solid back of the house.  I painted the front frame with bundled sage distress ink and added some vintage photo distress ink around the edges with a blending tool.

I then painted some Tando hearts and some die cut hearts with bundled sage and tattered rose distress paints. I painted the key with antique bronze distress paint then added some black soot distress ink around the edges.

I then started to choose ephemera and papers to add to the frame and glued them to the back of the frame

I glued the frame to the back piece of the house, then chose plenty of bits and pieces I liked.  I played around a few times putting different elements into different compartments until I decided what I wanted to stick down.  I kept putting pieces in, then changed them around a few times.  Each time, I took a photo before making my final decision.  The 3 photos below are the ones I took before I glued things down.

The photos below are the final piece with everything I chose.

Colour Inspiration January 2023- Fiona Randall

Hello and welcome to my contribution for the January Colour Inspiration.

Here are the colours provided to kickstart our mojo for the New Year.

For my project I decided to construct one of the Tando Mini Books.

I started by constructing the book and gave it a coat of DecoArt Americana Chalky Finish in Carbon. I then gave it a coat of DecoArt Media Ultra Matte Varnish when dry to protect and seal.
I then cut two pieces of cardstock for the back and front covers. These were sprayed with spray stains from the Steampunk Soiree set from Lindy's Stamp Gang and dried with a heat tool. Stencilling was added with white gesso and stamping with Black Archival Ink. The edges were also inked before adhering to the front and back covers of the book. Nect up I embossed a Small Tando frame with some Embossing Powder. I then stamped a Butterfly from a  Chocolate Baroque Stamp Set onto white card and fussy Cut out. The frame was attached to the front cover and the butterfly glued into place as shown. To finish I added sentiment strips made with a Dynamo Label maker and attached to the front cover as shown.
A quick and easy project with limited supplies to kick start the New Year.
Thanks for taking the time to stop by and read.
Hugs Fiona.

Box Storage projects

Hi everyone,

I’m in the middle of a tidy up of my creative space, or ‘the midden’ as we’ve started to call it! I really needed some storage for my formidable collection of erasers, sharpeners, leads, sponges and assorted bits of bobs, so I made up some Tando boxes (https://www.tando-creative.co.uk/box-storage-4-x-small-boxes-and-4-x-small-drawers.html).

This one is simply painted and then I cut up some of my mountain of gelli prints (finally found a use for all my experiments…) and edge them with a dark red Distress Ink. The little name plate (https://www.tando-creative.co.uk/MINIBKPLTSML.html) was painted with a mix of the colours from the  gelli print. Easy Peasy Lemon Squeezy.

Here it is in situ, on one of my shelves:

I use these boxes for all sorts of things, here’s a couple I made last year. I have to admit; the cogs one is still my favourite

Have you made any yet? We’d love to see them in the Tando Create Zone Facebook page.

Happy New Year everyone

Nicky's Colour Inspiration

I had half started this project and given the colour inspiration, it was a great opportunity to finish this make.

I started with painting the whole book in black Gesso.

I placed some ribbon on the inside for closing the book. This will be hidden behind some paper.

So I don't know about you but I love a paper stack but I generally don't like to use them haha... anyway I usually buy two and this paper was from one of the very first stacks which caught my attention many years ago called MariPoser.

I used Tim Holts vintage photo distress ink on the paper edges.

The edges look lovely and distressed against the black Gesso,

For the inside of the specimen book I used a number of different stencils and mediums to give effect. Each page is a different colour to go with the months theme.

I have decorated each page with a colour for the theme. Page one has a crackle paint and decorated in a Teal colour. Page two is a Burgundy with a grain medium. Page three is the pink and page 4 was the Grey. Each one has a different butterfly die cut and each was heat embossed.

Fot the front of the book I used some Tando-Creative sub straight. There was the Tando layered Butterfly, the angel wings, mini clocks and a key from my stash.

I gave each piece a layer of Lava Paste which I just love.

The wings and butterfly were layered on the front of the book and I added a little gilding wax to highlight the lava paste which gives it a great effect.

Colour Inspiration - January 23

May be an image of text

Happy new year, folks!

Here's a quick and easy tag using our Inspiration colours for January. I don't have the exact colours so I used:

Jo Sonja's Aqua for #14A098

DecoArt's Media Fluid Acrylic Medium Grey Value 6 for #CCCCCC

DecoArt's Americana Carousel Pink with a touch of True Red for #CB2D6F

DecoArt's Americana Dioxazine Purple with a touch of Primary Blue for #501F3A

DecoArt's Americana Lamp Black for #0F292F

(I also snuck in tiny strokes of Titanium White for highlights.)

I used a 74x138 Tando Creative Mixed Media Board, with a couple of coats of white gesso to keep the colours bright.

I applied a good layer of pink to the lower end of the tag then, while it was wet, applied Aqua to the upper end and blended the two in the middle section.

Once it was dry the colours on my pallet were starting to dry, too, so I used a firm bristle brush to dab the thick pink along the lower part of the tag. I did the same with the Aqua to the upper part, but dated with my finger. This gave a textured look.

When dry I used the scroll stencil from the Tando Creative Background and Flourish Stencils set and sponged the purple over the background. I used a fine liner brush to add the grey flourishes (with a little white as highlights!)

I edged the tag in black, added some rustic string - and finished.

You could use a flower stencil, or may be stamp a sentiment across the background.

Lets Create Art Case

This week Jan, one of our DT set a colour theme challenge over on the Tando FB page so whilst i had a few more days off before i returned back to work i joined in.

Materials

Black Paint
Rangers distress Oxide Sprays
Water colour wax pencils in Pink, Purple, Teal
Scrapbook paper. Mine was IndigoBlu
Stamps and black ink (IndigoBlu)
Large elastic band as fastener
Leather strap and brads

Instructions

I began building my case and by painting the whole art case in black paint, being careful around the hinge. I build mine with the clipboard clip on the outside as i wanted to be able to use the case as a drawing board board but it can be easily be build with the clip on the inside too.

Next i covered each side with patterned paper, slightly smaller than the case so i had a slight black border. I had to use the side pieces of the case as a template for the paper so do this before you build, so much easier.

I also covered the inside compartments too

Once dry and well stuck i added some hand cut flowers and butterflies before i randomly set to wrork with some distress ink

I stamped on some art images ie paint brushes and paint tubes and coloured them in with my water colour crayons in the scheme coloures

I took a Tando Create Word and sprayed it blue/Teal ready for the front cover.

To finish i added a handle as i wanted to take the case on my travels with me. i cut a strip of leather. I then drilled two holes in the side panels and attached the leather strap with some brads

I used a hair band to secure the front flap

I hope i have inspired you to get creative this January and join in with our colour challenge
