Anything Goes Week - Binder Step by Step

Morning all,

I have a Step by Step on Di's Binder from Hochanda last week for you today,  the way I have decorated the outside of mine.

Make sure you lay the kit out, and work out which hinges fit which side to line up with their corresponding stitching holes, and your book covers are the right way up.  Continue to work on them as you have laid them out so you don't do any stamping/stencilling etc upside down. (if you choose stamps that need to be the right way). I'm talking from experience on a previous project here :)

Step 1.
Using Di's long tag Numbers stencil, put Structure Paste through onto the book covers in random areas.  Then take Crackle Paint, and using a palette knife, add random patches all over the two covers, and then more on all the hinges to cover (not the bendy spine).

Step 2.
Paint the whole book in white Tinting Base, paint or gesso, your preference, it won't make much difference to the finish.

Step 3.
Dry Brush everything, using Carbon Black paint.  This brings all the little crackle to life, and highlights the numbers.

Step 4:
Stencil using Quinacridone gold, through the coffee stains stencil, in random areas all over.

Assemble the book, using pegs or clips if needed to hold the hinges in place while drying, I did one side of the book then turned to do the back.  Once all glued, you can stitch through the holes, giving extra strength and character to the binder.  Use Ribbon or Elastic, or you could stitch a button to the back latch and use as a hook from the front.  (I haven't stitched mine yet).

You can still purchase your binders, and get Di's online workshop with this link.   It's well worth it, and Di's folder is beautiful and easy to follow.  (I did the workshop myself :)

Best Wishes,

Colour theme week- Canvas layout by Monika

Hi :)
It's Colour Theme week, so I thought I will make a canvas layout using Tando elements and stencils.

These are the colours we had to use:

I've started my work with applying Decoart modeling paste through stencils randomly on medium size canvas board.

Using Decoart heavy gel medium I've added greyboard pieces- , an old brush, greayboard words, small pearls and other decorative elements. After making sure the whole composition is dry I've covered it with white gesso.

Next step was to add some colours. I have used media sprays, acrilic paint washes and alcohol inks, playing and mixing them all.

Really quick and fun project! I hope you like it!
See you next time!

Easter Week

It’s my turn today to share a little Easter make.  I was away, with limited craft supplies, so had to think about this one!

I took one of Tando’s plastic tags, which are a fab material to work with, and take paint very well.  I coloured in a pale green first on one side, then stippled the whole tag with green gold.

I used hansa yellow medium next, and then stamped a leaf in diarylide yellow as a background all over.

Next I took a Nathalie Kalbach stencil from her ‘Marks’ stamp set, it comes free in the set.  It had some rough edged circles, which I love and thought they would work well.  I used primary magenta mixed with tinting base to lay some circles down.

I went back in with the same stencil, and cobalt teal hue mixed with tinting base again, and added more circles.

I then took a fine paintbrush, and added patterns to each circle, in opposite colours, to look like easter egg patterns.

My final step was to take a white acrylic pen, and ‘elongate’ the circles with scribbles, to make them more egg shaped.

On top of that I added a few white spatters all across the tag in tinting base.

And here is my Easter Tag!

Hope you like it.
