Layers with Brenda

Here is another of the mini albums that went to Hochanda in March. This is layered up with lace and paint to create a shabby vintage look.

Process steps

1. Take the mini boards and using matte medium some lace onto the outer covers. Let dry naturally or speed the process up with a heat gun.

2. Add a fine layer of texture sand paste in the gaps between each row of lace and again dry.

3. Take the cover boards and the page inserts and paint everything with a coat of white gesso on both sides.

4. When everything is bone dry sand the edges and any rough spots then use a natural sponge to blend over a neutral palette of media acrylic paints mixing the colours on the project spritzing and blending them together with a babywipe as you go. Dry each layer before adding another. I used burnt umber, titanium white and titan buff.

5. Because I wanted the next layer of watery paint to seep into the recesses and not into the lace I gave the covers a couple of coats of matte medium. When they were dry I dipped and spritzed the washes over them then took some time to add the colours directly into the recesses with a small brush heat drying as I went.

6. Now came the time to add embellishments to the front cover…..

7. …. and to add some collages to each of the pages and some uplifting words.

There are some close ups of the pages today over at Bumblebees and Butterflies if you'd like to see them in more detail.

Keep a look out for other makes with a layered theme this week from my fabulous teamies.

Not as it seems week...Hochanda Craftalong kit

Last Sunday Fiona Randall did an amazing job presenting the Craftalong on Hochanda.  This kit is completely designed by Fiona and the design team made some stunning samples.

Me...being me....I like to think outside of the box (excuse the pun) so I created this box using the patterned sheets included in the kit and added a base and embellishments.  It is actually really sturdy.  If you'd like to see the Hochanda Craftalong you can still view it on catchup on their website.

Anything Goes Week - Little Things, Little Book

Hello!

This week on the Tando Creative blog it is 'Anything Goes' week so I took the opportunity to decorate one of the fab mini books...

* After preparing the surface with gesso I used acrylic paint in yellow and orange to form my main colour.

* Next I used the rings stencil with brown paint and then the dots stencil with gold paint.

* For extra interest I used sepia archival ink with a stamp from France Papillon's London New York set.  Then I stamped out the bee from Creepers and Crawlers and a sentiment.

* To create a closure for the book I used my crop a dile and then added eyelets and some ribbon...

* To complete the cover I used my paint pens to add some doodle dots.

Here are the products I used:

Tando Creative - Mini Book Pack 2
Tando Creative Stencils - Rings; Dots
France Papillon Stamps - London New York; Creepers and Crawlers; Perfect Words

Thank you for looking and happy crafting!

Anything Goes Week - Brenda

ANYTHING GOES - we love it when we get a week where we can share anything we like with you and I have chosen this mini album created by Di for one of her Hochanda shows.
This was  one of the samples I made for her.

Process steps. Pages
1. Cut panels from patterned paper, ink the edges and adhere to the album.
2. When dry sand back the edges and ink again..

3. Use snippets of Tim Holtz  botanical collage paper with decou-page  mate sealer/glue on each panel, sealing the complete surface of each one
4. Sand off any over hangs.

5. Paint the flowers and leaves with watery media fluid acrylics.
6. Add some die-cut leaves, tiny flowers and words.

7. Repeat the same process steps for the front and back covers.

I used small buttons and thin black elastic to make the closures.

Finished front cover

Finished back cover.

This is such a cute size 8 x 9.5 cms and feels lovely to hold in the hand and is great as a quote book to give someone.

I hope you like this style journal/album.

Thanks for stopping by.

Crackle week- Mechanical Heart Tag by Monika

Good mornig, it's last day of Tando Crackle Week and I wanted to share my inspiration for You.

I have started with punching three holes in my tag, then painting it with Decoart Media Fluid Acrylic paint in Iron Oxide. I have also applied a coat of the same paint on my heart embellishment.

I have tinted Decoart Crackle Paste with Paynes Grey Media Fluid acrylic paint and scraped it randomly all over my tag making sure the layer is nice and thin.

Once paste was dry and tiny crackles appeared I have stamped my tag with Andy Skinner Tech Trauma stamps and black Archival Ink.

Also, I have added my favourite 'dirty washes' of  Decoart fluids in Quinacridone Gold and Paynes Grey.

I hope you like my inspiration
See you next time

Crackle Week - by Hannah Oxberry

Hi all, thank you for joining me here on the Tando Blog! It's Crackle Week and I just love the added texture crackles can bring to your designs.

For my project I thought I would share a design I created for the Craftalong Show with Di and Fiona in a few weeks time.

This gorgeous kit, designed by Fiona Randall, can be used in a whole variety I ways. I included a brightly coloured paper background with black heat embossed pillars against a white backdrop. The kit includes a stencil for the wings, I decided to use this stencil to run crackle paste through to create wonderfully crackled wings!

I added further detail to the design by using modeling paste on the heart and texture paste on the rusty cogs. The wings I painted white and added irridecscent gold to highlight.

I wanted to create contrast in the pillars and picked out pink colours from the backing papers to coordinate with the heart.

I hope you like the project!

Bird Tag for Crackle Week - Jane

Hello!

This week on the Tando Creative blog we are all about 'Crackle'!

I decided to use one of the tags in my technique binder to create lots of crackle texture in different ways...

After I had prepared my surface with white gesso I mixed a little bit of green gold fluid acrylic with white crackle paint.  Once this had dried I used the long arrows stencil with crackle paste and left it to air dry.

To highlight the cracks I watered down some of the green gold and added it to the tag.

To create a different sort of crackle effect I also used a stamp from Bee Crafty with a crackle pattern along with some archival ink...

To complete my tag I water coloured a couple of Scribbly Bird stamps and added a sentiment...

Here are the products I used...

* Tando Creative - Technique Binder and Tags
* Tando Creative Stencil - Arrows
* Decoart - Fluid Acrylics
* Decoart - Mediums

There will be lots more crackle projects throughout the week from other members of the design team, so do please keep popping back for a look.

Happy crafting,

Jane xx

Colour post

Hi, Carol with you today to share with you my May colour post….

The colour palette is:-

lovely and fresh aren't they?

And here is my artist trading coin...

The base is an artist trading coin which was painted using paper artsy fresco acrylic paints.  The rings stencil was used on the base before a Tim Holtz paper doll was added along with a saying.
