Product Focus - More Door Hangers - by Kim

 Just for fun! 

I was recently struck down by the dreaded Covid lurgy, and it gave me an idea ... how about a door hanger warning sign! It would serve as a reminder that I was infectious and everyone should keep away. In olden times I would have carried a bell and wandered about the streets moaning, "Unclean! Unclean!" 

But we live in more enlightened times (or so you would think!), and while the ideas were flowing, how about a hanger for those who work shifts and are asleep while the rest of us are awake?

And of course, one for the stroppy teenager who won't communicate because us adults just don't understand, but eventually comes round when food is on offer.

So here are my fun hangers. Can you think of some other important messages they could carry?

Stop. Covid Zone: Front; Yellow and black quartered background, hand lettering in red. Back; Three greens scumbled as background, red lettering with white blocking. And a big tick. 

I'm Awake: Front; Light blue and white scumbled background, yellow letters, dark blue blocking and red decoration. Back; Darker blue and white scumbled background with some lightly applied clouds in white, white letters, black blocking.

Go Away!; Front; Solid black background, orange lettering with red blended over the bottom half. Back; Red, pink, and white scumbled background, letters based in yellow the gold over the top, outlined in black. Gold dots on the background.

A Vintage Tag

Hi there!

Celia here with a tag for our ‘vintage’ theme this week. I have been making a few vintagey things recently, which is a change from my usual bright colours.

I picked out a couple of tando tags (size 5 and size 9) and a media board. I embossed the small tag with an embossing folder, then primed the tags with Whisper chalk paint and the media board with Relic. Then I added some washes of Yellow Iron Oxide and Raw Umber to age them, followed by English iron oxide on the smaller tag.

Then I added some stamping to the large tag, using the Harebell stamps from Chocolate Baroque. Also some random texture stamps in brown Archival. Then I used some crackle paste round the edges of the small tag and painted it brown when dry, followed by black antiquing cream and some silver gilding paste.

I found an old picture of my granny, scanned it and reduced it in size & printed it onto photo paper. I gave it a coat of matte medium then some One Step Crackle. When this was dried I used grey Antiquing Cream to age the photo. For the media board, I wetted the edges and used a craft knife to peel open some of the layers. Then edged in Paynes Grey and finally treasure gold. 

Then I added a few bits and pieces of fabric, washi tape and buttons before glueing the tags together. My granny was an excellent dressmaker, so the buttons and fabric seams appropriate. I edged the large tag with brown ink, then added some vintage gold embossing powder.

Here’s the finished tag. The greyboard is great for throwing lots of different mediums at so you can really go to town when ageing a piece.

Chocolate Baroque with Lisa

Hi lovelies, today's blog post is showcasing a great combination of two amazing British companies - Tando Creative and Chocolate Baroque. A match made in heaven!!!

Here is the Tando tag I created using a Chocolate Baroque stamp. 

First, I painted a Tando tag with yellow and blue DecoArt Premium Acrylic paints. Then painted over it with white Gesso. When it was dry, I rubbed over the tag with a damp baby wipe to distress the surface of the tag.

I then stamped directly on to the tag using Chocolate Baroque's 'movie strip collage' A5 Rubber Stamp. I coloured in the stamped flower using my lovely new Koh-I-Noor watercolour pencils. I then painted a section of the Tando Extra Thins - Wire and added it to the tags. I finished with adding some rusty orange thread to the tag hole.

Chocolate Baroque Week- Fiona Randall

 

Morning everyone Fiona Here with a Tag for Chocolate Baroque week here on Tando Creative.

 

Chocolate Baroque is a small independent art and craft company, based in the historic market town of Barnard Castle in County Durham in the North-East of England and is owned and run by Lesley and David Wharton. Lesley and David produce an extensive range of natural rubber art stamps. The rubber stamps are made in house, by David, to our very exacting quality standards.

 

So using Chocolate Baroque's fabulous stamps and Tando Creative substrates are a match made in heaven. So here is the tag that I created.

 

 

I used a Tando  size 9 Tag ( 160x90mm) as my substrate base. I then embossed a piece of 300gsm cardstock with a woodgrain Embossing Folder. I then applied Distress Ink Sprays  and Distress oxides to colour and age the cardstock. This was then cut to shape and glued to the tag base and the edges inked with walnut Stain Distress Ink. I used the same coloured ink sprays to make a small cardstock panel and then stamped using the border stamp from Chocolate Baroque's Texture Fragments Rubber Stamp Sheet with Potting Soil Archival Ink. I then applied Distress ink to Some Tando Harlequin Extra Thins and then stamped with the text stamp from Chocolate Baroque's Butterfly Poppy Collage Rubber Stamp Sheet in Potting Soil Archival Ink. I then Stamped the Large Butterfly also from The Butterfly Poppy Collage Stamp sheet and applied watered down distress ink using a brush to colour. The cardstock panel was then mounted onto a piece of Tando Grey Board cut to size and the edges Inked with Walnut Stain Distress Ink.. All elements were then mounted onto the tag, some burlap string was pulled apart and added also and to finish sentiment strips added.

Tando Creative 24 Play Days- Inspiration by Monika Maksym

Hi!

Welcome to my step by step tutorial on how to create this copper - patina effect  using greyboard tag and embellishments

Start with gluing metal embellishments to the base

Apply Lava Paste (or any other structure paste) through the stencil and over the little heart.

Heat set it.

Paint the entire tag with copper metallic paint. Let it dry

Water down Chalky paint and apply a wash over the tag.

Repeat the step with teal coloured paint.

 Using sponge or brush dab on some Antiquing Cream in Patina Green. Once dry, remove the excess with wet wipe.

Paint textured heart with Paynes Grey paint.

Add a little wash of Paynes Grey over the tag. And splatter it with watered down white paint.

Paint 'Destiny' word plate with copper paint, then with Paynes Grey. 

Mount it on the tag. 

Then using white paint, dry brush over the word plate and heart to accent all the peaks.

Crackle week- Mechanical Heart Tag by Monika

Good mornig, it's last day of Tando Crackle Week and I wanted to share my inspiration for You. 

 

 I have started with punching three holes in my tag, then painting it with Decoart Media Fluid Acrylic paint in Iron Oxide. I have also applied a coat of the same paint on my heart embellishment.

I have tinted Decoart Crackle Paste with Paynes Grey Media Fluid acrylic paint and scraped it randomly all over my tag making sure the layer is nice and thin.

 Once paste was dry and tiny crackles appeared I have stamped my tag with Andy Skinner Tech Trauma stamps and black Archival Ink.

Also, I have added my favourite 'dirty washes' of  Decoart fluids in Quinacridone Gold and Paynes Grey.

Anything goes week- Dream Tag by Monika

Good mornig all,

It's 'anything goes' week on so I have decided to show you one of my latest tags that I have made for Tando show at Hochanda tv today.

 

I'm using size 8 Tando Tag  for this project. Using Prussian Blue Media Fluid Acrylic I have painted the background, straight on the greyboard. I have applied one coat in the middle section, and two coats on the top and bottom of my tag.

I have splattered  watered down White Chalky Finish Paint across the tag to create the stars. Next step was to heat emboss the stamped images of the trees and moon, once cooled I have added a light wash with white paint.

I have also mixed some Prussian Blue paint with white chalky paint and dyed the ribbon and Andy Skinner greyboard 'dream' plate.

Dark and Moody with Fiona.

 

Good morning Fiona Here. This weeks theme is Dark and Moody a theme right up my street. Now I would normally go down the skull/Ravens/ Gothic theme but I have took a break from that and gone in a completely different direction but still with a Dark and Moody feel to the project.

 

 

I started with a size 9 Tando Grey Board tag and created my background with a new technique that I have playing around with using Carbon Black and Titan Buff Fluid Acrylics. This was then given a coat of  Ultra Matte Varnish to seal. I cut a piece of Tando Grey Board to make a topper for the tag and gave it a coat of Tinting base. I then mixed a little Raw Umber fluid acrylic into Titan Buff Fluid Acrylic  and applied to the topper. Once dry I stamped with Black Versafine Ink the gothic text butterfly image from Chocolate Baroque's Butterfly Poppy Collage stamp set. I then stamped the image again and cut out the Butterfly colured with watered down Paynes Grey Fluid Acrylic and the mounted onto the main stamped image to give a feel of movement. The edges were then distressed and mounted onto to the tag base. The quote was then computer generated and printed onto a piece of heavy cardstock which had been painted with the Raw Umber Titan Buff mix, edged in black versafine ink and then mounted onto the tag to finish.

Something different from me but I think I captured the Dark and Moody feel to the project.

Colour theme week- autumn journal cover by Monika

Hello October!

It's colour theme week. I've decided to decorate a journal cover this time.

I've started with cutting a maple shape leaf out of the greyboard leftover, slightly distressed the edges, painted it with acrylic paints  and stamped it with sentence stamp. Then I've added words and little heart.

Journal cover was painted, stamped and I've added some interest by using Texture Sand Paste and paint splatters.

 Size 6 tag was covered with embossing powder and once heated I've pressed a texture stamp on to the surface and added some paint around the edges.
