Neil Walker Book Cover

Hi there!

Today I've made a video to show how I decorated one of the Tando book covers. It's Neil Walker's Mechanical book cover kit. He has a whole range of covers available. If you look on his blog neelz expressionz he has some more ideas on how to decorate the covers.

If you search the Tando blog for book binding or mini books, there are some other methods of binding the journal. Here is a simple method from Karen (mini book). I stuck my calico inside instead of outside, and then simply painted the inside covers and the calico.

Book Cover Week - Wonky Street Chipboard Book

Hi Tando fans! Dana here today sharing a colorful chipboard book for the Book Cover theme this week. This book was super fun to put together! It feels great to finally finish this book! (I had the cover complete back in May!) I'm ready to move onto this dreamy street! Who wants to come with?!

I paired Susan K. Weckesser whimsical patterned paper and stamps with the Wonky Street Book Cover Kit designed by Neil Walker. I painted the cover with Ranger acrylic paint and added some textured designs with the Susan K. Weckesser A Little Bit Washi Stamp Set. I secured the houses to the book cover with adhesive foam for added dimension. I added numbers to each house with digits from the Arthur Number Set. The Mini People were the perfect size for this piece. I colored them with purple mist. The sentiment from Susan's What's Up Gnomey? Stamp Set was the perfect finishing touch.

I used twine and a Secret Belgian Binding technique to secure the front and back covers to the spine. I learned this technique from a 3-part video series that I found HERE.

I stitched three sections of colored cardstock and patterned paper into the binding of the book creating a total of 30 pages, which should be plenty for me to document all the moves I make as a military wife!

BOOK COVER WEEK

Hello!  This week we are looking at BOOK COVERS.  Tando sell a wide variety of these for you to decorate/alter.  There are 2 different sized kits from Neil Walker, which include a front, back and a spine as well as extra pieces for the front!  We also have Word Books where you can choose any word you would like up to 7 letters.  There are our own RING BINDERS, complete with board pages, as well as a selection of MINI BOOKS in different designs ( the Christmas one is a favourite!)  Yes...lots to choose from!!!!

I have chosen to use one of Neil's designs - a 6x6 kit called RANDOM 3.

The bases have been gesso'd then sprayed with Media Misters (Orange, Primary Yellow, Primary Cyan & Primary Magenta) to create a really bright background.  The layered piece has been painted with Media Fluids (Primary Magenta).  Isn't there a lovely sheen??? And so vibrant!!!!

Instead of using the spine provided I have bound mine with a Bind-It-All using black rings to match the black car I used for the pages.  For the letters I sprayed some thin card the same as the backgrounds and stamped & embossed the letters before cutting out and applying.

Desert Arch - Black and Brown

Hi Tando fans! Dana here today wrapping up the Black and Brown theme this week. I started with an Arabian-Style Layered Arch Frame and created this nighttime desert scene with some of my favorite song lyrics and a camel stamp. I added lots of sparkle with iridescent gold paint and several colors of glitter glue.

I used a portion of the Neil Walker Geometric Book Cover Kit for the sand and added a Mini Star to the night sky.

The lyrics are written by Chris Cornell for the Soundgarden song Burden in my Hand and read:

So follow me into the desert as thirsty as you are. 

Where the moon is glued to a picture of heaven...

Book Cover Week - Admit One Album

Hi Tando fans! Dana here today sharing my "Admit One" album for the Book Covers theme this week. I started with a Neil Walker Geometric Book Cover Kit.

I added some fun texture to the base of my cover. I started by applying a layer of gesso, and once that was dry, crushed egg shells. If you'd like to try this technique I share my tutorial on a similar project HERE. I colored my cover with Radiant Rain Mist, Twinkling H2Os and Silks Acrylic Glaze.

I covered a stamped ticket with a Tim Holtz facet. As this will be my journal, I thought "Admit One" was a nicer way of saying "Keep Out!"

I added a flower and some charms to finish the cover.

I added a mix of watercolor, kraft and cardstock papers to the inside of the album and bound it with a piece of ribbon. The back cover is "naked." I decided to save the other set of geometric pieces for the cover of another album!

Book Week

Hello everyone, I can't tell you how excited I was to get my book cover to play with - it was straight out the packaging and on my desk ready for layers of paint and ink!  I used the Geometric design cover and started off by priming it with white Gesso, I also used the Tando Distorted Diamonds mask with some texture paste to add more dimension.  Next I added some flowers and a butterfly and then went to work misting.  I did each layer a slightly different colour, and experimented with stamping on the middle layer and liquid pearls, then on the top layer I went with purple which I dripped water on and then wound string around.  It was so much fun to make.  I repeated the techniques on both the back and front cover.

Here is a close up of the texture paste and flowers - they were all sorts of colours but because I bathed the book in mist it didn't really matter.

I fastened my book with jump rings so I could add more pages, and have started by making a few different pocket pages, just roughly stitching around the edges of them.
