24 Boxes of Advent - Gold - by Kim

 Here is another in our 24 Boxes of Advent series. We are using the same
large box kit as others in the series, so start by glueing it together. I usually give a coat of white gesso all over to give me a sealed surface to paint on.

Next I cracked open (!) the DecoArt Crackle Paste. On the top and sides of the outer box I smeared on the paste using a pallet knife. By varying the thickness the size of the crackle effect will also vary. To add interest, while the paste was still wet I stuck on some small random offcuts. Set aside to dry completely - overnight is good.

Next, on the front face of the inner box I carefully laid on a frame of Crackle Paste with the pallet knife. This was about 5mm wide. Set aside to dry with the outer box.

When the Crackle Paste is dry I used DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylic Burnt Umber, watered 50:50, as a wash to stain the white paste and accent the crackle on both the outer box and the frame on the inner box. Allow to dry.

To really enhance the texture I used DecoArt Media Antiquing Cream Carbon Black over the crackle areas. These Antiquing Creams dry but remain workable, so I used a soft cloth to wipe it back so it remained only in the deep texture.

The remaining sides on the outer box were painted with DecoArt Americana Lamp Black.

The inside, outside, and framed panel of the inner box were also painted with Lamp Black. When dry I used a white colouring pencil (Faber Castell Polychromos) to add the glass baubles design to the panel. 

I found the white pencil gave a good effect, except for sufficient brightness for the highlights on the glass, but if I tried to add paint directly over the pencil it would smudge. I needed to seal the pencil work before overpainting the highlights.

I used DecoArt Media Ultra Matte Varnish thinned to 50:50 and sprayed through a mister bottle to cover the design without risking using a brush. Allow to dry.

The inside of the outer box was painted with Venetian Gold - three coats so it's nice and shiny.

Once the sealed panel is dry I used a fine liner brush to add the white highlights to the baubles, over the varnish.

But we need more gold! So, all crackle texture surfaces were treated with Metallic Lustre Champagne Ice, rubbed on with a finger to pick up the tops of the texture. Give it a light buff with kitchen paper or soft cloth.

Anything Goes Week- Rusty Tag- Fiona Randall

 

Hello All and welcome to another week on the Tando Blog. This weeks theme is Anything Goes 

so I got Rusty with a tag and the new frames and Butterflies elements from

Di's recent Hochanda shows.

I started by applying DecoArt Crackle Paste to the edges of the tag and put it aside do dry and do it's thing. I then took one of the small square frames and punched a hole either side using a hole punch before applying some DecoArt Media Texture Sand Paste. Once this was dry I gave the frame a coat of DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylic in Quinacrodone Gold dried and then added a coat of DecoArt Ultra Matte Varnish. The Tag had done it's thing and it had crackled nicely. I then gave the tag and the top piece of the Butterfly element  a spray of Lindy's Stamp Gang Moonshadow spray in Mystic Malachite. They have a walnut stain base which I love mixed in with the irridessence of the mica which has a green tone. The base of the layered Butterfly also had a spray with the Moonshadow mist in Tawny Turquoise as did the backing of the small frame. I then added a coat of DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylic in Metallic Gold to a piece of the Tando Exta Thins Wire which I snipped and layered onto the tag base. I then gave the tag base and the butterfly a wash of DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylic in Quinacrone Gold to give a grungy rusty feel to the pieces and then layered up the frame with a bit of rusty wire threaded through the holes and placed the butterfly on top. To finish I added a little word sticker.

Hi there!
Celia here, and this week our theme is stencils. I’m a bit obsessed with stencils so I thought I’d just let rip on one of the Tando greyboard squares. First I put down a quick background of DecoArt chalk paint in Escape and Vintage.

Then I started layering up with some blues (Tando 4x4 ‘distressed diamonds’ , stitches)

...and some purple (4x4 ‘distressed sequins’ , Andy Skinner ‘Whirlpool’)

...and some green (long stencil ‘rings’ ) and some numbers in black (Tando 4x4 ‘numbers’)

...and then some circles with the Chalk Paint (Tando 6x6 ‘Grid Round’). Then a bit of crackle paste and Andy Skinners ‘Baroque’ stencil, which I painted with a wash of Prussian Blue when dry.
Here’s the finished background. You can see that by layering up the stencils you can obtain a very complex looking background.

Then I painted my embellishments with gold and silver, and used embossing powder on the heart. (Small clock, Hearts Grab Bag) before sticking it all together.
And here’s the finished piece.

Christmas Baubles

Hi there! Celia here with a quick Christmas crafty idea. I’ve decorated some of the large baubles. They also come in mini! 😍
I first primed them with Tinting Base so that my colours would be nice and bright. Then I applied some Crackle Paste through some stencils. (Distressed sequins and some Dylusions)

Then I painted them in some bright jewel colours (Cobalt Teal hue, Quin magenta, Quin violet, yellow green light, Pthalo blue, Vermilion - all DecoArt fluid acrylics), then used a crackle stamp with toning Archival ink colours for a bit more interest.

I added some interference paints for a bit of sparkle and used some thin gold twine for the loops. Finally some Treasure Gold on the edges and the crackle paste areas. I did this through the stencils to avoid getting gold everywhere.

Texture Paste Cog

Hi there, it’s Celia here with a look at texture pastes. They lend themselves very well to rust effects, and I find they're so useful to add interest to a project.
I decided to use four different pastes together, because why just use one! I used DecoArt Sand Paste on the cogs and stippled some Andy Skinner Lava Paste on the big MDF cog. This needs heat setting to make it puff up. If you stipple it on finely it creates a nice pitted rust effect.
For the base, I used a 6x6 greyboard sheet and stuck on some Tim Holtz Abandoned collage paper. I discovered that the big cog is the same size as the cut outs in Fiona’s new Layered Tags, so I cut one out to put behind the cog. I just sprayed this black.

I used a spatula to apply Andy Skinner's Strata Paste and DecoArt Crackle Paste randomly around the edges of the base board.

When this was dry I stippled on a mixture of DecoArt media fluid acrylics to roughly match the colours of the paper (Burnt Umber, Green Gold, Pthalo green yellow, Transparent Iron Oxide). I also stippled some rusty colours on the big cog. Then I dry brushed the texture pastes with Titan Buff to highlight. I also coated a couple of small cogs from the minis cogs tag with some Ferro.

Then I added a couple of washes to tie it all in together before assembling. I added some silver Gilding Paste to the cog to highlight the rusty texture. The combination of the different texture pastes produces all sorts off yummy crunchy goodness!

Crackle Media Board- Fiona Randall

 

 

Morning Fiona Here and it my turn on the blog for this weeks theme which is Crackle.

 

 

I decided to create a media board using Tando Grey Board Sheets which I cut to size.

I then applied a piece of Inky Cardstock to the grey boar base. Next up DecoArt Crackle Paste was applied with a pallete Knife and then set aside to dry for the lovely cracks to appear.

 I applied a rusty treatment to some plaster wings using DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylics. The same treatment was applied to the Tando Minis range bookplate and a quote added. A Tiny Heart from The Tando Grab Bag of Hearts was given a coat of DecoArt Chalky finish in Rouge and attached to the wings. Washes of DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylics were the applied over the crackle until the desired effect was achieved. The wings and bookplate were then attached to the base to finish.

Sparked easy Christmas ornament with Irit

Hello my dear crafty friends and welcome to our Sparkle week  on Tando blog.

I made this Christmas/Winter ornament tag using just two of Tando products and a lot of DecoArt Media line products with Stampendous glitters over.

The MDF base of one of Shadow box frames was covered with a thick layer of white acrylic paint and DecoArt crackle white paint all together.
When it was dry the blue shades  were added using acrylic liquid paints.
Then the thick layer of glitter was added over the tag.
The reindeer was painted with white acrylic and a very generous layer of delicate glitter was added into the wet paint.'
This is easy to make project for all levels of crafters and you can do dozens of them in no time with similar Tando products.

Crackle Week - Stamped Button Card

Hi friends! Dana here today sharing the card I created for the Crackle Theme this week. I had a lot of fun with colors and patterns for this project. I assembled a simple layered card base and wanted to create a fun focal point.

I used the Valley Road Positive and Negative Foam Stamp Set from Nathalie Kalbach with ink on white cardstock and vellum to create a 2-layer circle piece for the center of the card. Next, I filled the holes in the middle of the stamping with jeweled brads. Finally, I stitched a Button that I painted first with DecoArt Cadmium Red Fluid Acrylic and then with a mix of Primary Yellow Fluid Acrylic and White Crackle Paste. I finished this card with a sentiment sticker.

Art Journal Kit

Hi Everyone it's Brenda here with my very first post for the Tando Creative Team and I'm so happy to be here using Di's wonderful products and 'working' alongside so many very talented people.

Towards the end of August I was able to attend one of Di's workshops at Let's Be Creative in Rogate in Hampshire and had a wonderful time using the Art Journal Kit. It's a fabulous kit which comes with covers, drilled spine for sewing the signatures in, a wraparound spine and the needles and thread for sewing the pages together. Here's the front and back covers together -

Those who know me will be used to my vintage, shabby, timeworn creations and although these whimsical birds are not normally my style I loved playing with their shapes and using more neutral colours on them to be the focal points on the front and back covers.

I had also taken some hessian ribbon and vintage narrow ribbon and used these on the wraparound spine to provide more detail and when I got home I used the DecoArt media acrylics to add a card border too.

Tag week with Irit

Hello my dear crafty friends and welcome to my first Tando post for 2017.
New year means new  word that we usually pick as our Word of the Year.
My word for 2017 is Journey. Yes, I am not yet sure what Journey it will be, but it should be new, unexplored and exiting.
So as you can see my altered Mixed Media tag is all about this journey.
I made it as a stone road and the sky with stars, as I don't really know  the right way  of this journey.
 And it says " Imagine your next journey"; so you can understand that I am totally not sure about the way.
I used Tando Crocodile stencil to make the stone effect with texture paste (DecoArt) and glitter embossing powders (WOW! Embossing Powders).
When it was dry (heat gun sure worked here extra ) I misted it with copper mist and added DecoArt Crackle paste over the edges. When it was dry I added DecoArt Acrylic paint over the paste.

Tando large chipboard stars were covered with gold and blue embossing powders and then with DecoArt Crackle Glaze and I love the effect a lot.
The arrow was heat embossed with gold powder and then misted with blue mist.
The round golden dots are the left overs from Tando Round. background chipboard and I love to embellish with them as you can paint then to any color to fit your project.
