Crackle Tag

Hi everyone I hope you are well, I have tag for you for this weeks theme which is crackle paste or crackle glaze I have used both in my piece.

Firstly I used France's stencils rivets I used both the small and the large stencils.

First I put down a layer of ferro paste 

Followed by crackle glaze coloured with prussian blue hue.

I coloured the tag with deco art chalk paint then did washes

with quinacridone gold &  raw umber. 

I painted the heart with titan buff and added detail with stamps from Andy skinner

washes followed. I wrapped wire round the heart and added gems.

I highlighted the crackle paste with guiding wax and added gems below.

Anything Goes Week

Hi Brenda here. For this 'Anything Goes' post I decided to show you one of the mini books I made up for Di to use as a sample at Stitches last month.

This is a tiny but oh so cute book measuring about 6 cms square. It comes in three pieces - a front cover,  a back cover and a spine. I used canvas from a canvas pad cutting one piece to cover all three parts of this book and simply used a mounted vintage photo and number for the front.

White card was stamped with black archival and inked to make the cover inside panels and then black card was used stamped with white gesso to make the pages.

I found a tutorial on YouTube to help me make a hidden hinge on which I adhered my pages. It is explained here. They fitted in really neatly

The book is secured with a piece of elastic. I made a hole in the spine and tied the ends in a knot on the inside to prevent it completely pulling through when I pushed it through the hole. 

It is a very neat closure.

Anything Goes Week - Rustic Binder by Hannah Oxberry

Hi all, Hannah here with a grungy project especially for "Anything Goes" Week.

Featuring a brand new binders from Tando Creative, I wanted to try out blending paper techniques with my go to crackle layers. 

The binder itself has a bendy spine and a fold-over on the cover giving a great wrap around effect. 

I begun by painting the entire cover in DecoArt Chalky Finish Relic to give a deep base layer. On to this I added layers of Decoupage papers. A layer of Chalky Finish Treasure was added for a pop of colour, and rubbed back to give a grungy look, revealing the layers underneath.

Layers of Americana Decor Crackle Medium and Chalky Finish Everlasting give a weather worn effect, while washes further aged the cover. Again, these have been rubbed back in places to ensure the layers created show through.

Embellishments such as this heart have been added, along with 3mm pearls. 

To draw the layers together I have added Decoupage paper cut outs as a top layer, mirroring the base layers. This also adds a personalised dimension.

In keeping with the aged look of the cover, I wanted to replicate the same vibe inside the binder too. Using various old papers, ripped down to measure 14cm x 11.5cm, the selection of papers have been hole punched and added to the binder.

Anything goes - Butterfly

Hellooooo!  My project for you this week is a large hanging *butterfly* from the Butterflies Mega Pack.  I have used the largest at 25 x 15cm.  You get 3 large butterflies and 54 (yes 54!) mini butterflies all in a plastic wallet!  So if you love butterflies this is a must have kit. 

I used some *modelling paste* through the *bubbles* stencil (love this one) before adding paint.  Then I added some *crackle glaze* to the bubbles and when dried added some *antiquing cream* into the cracks.

The small butterflies from the pack were painted and then over stamped with a butterfly image before glazing.  The words were stamped onto thin card, cut out and glued on.  Then I just added some wire to hang it by.

Hi everyone Dee here with my latest post for Tando Creative. I have for you today a sample I made for Di when she launched these fabulous books on Hachonda. I have been playing around with making my own tissue papers and the different effects you can get with them so I have incorporated these into my little book. Also a little bit of home made embossed embellishments.

This is the front cover which I started by painting it with Raw umber, I followed with

weather wood in areas. Next I applied a layer of thinly applied crackle paint.

Once dried and crackled I went in with a fine brush and applied further raw umber to the spin of the book and area's that I wanted it to look worn. Next just a little watery Quinacridone gold to give it a slight rust look. A very watery wash was applied over the whole book then some gold Media Interference was applied.

The inside cover I completed like the front but instead of applying leatherwood in patches I applied it all over then gave a light coat of crackle paste and allowed to dry then went in with washes of raw umber and cardamon red.

For the actual inside book years ago I bought a load of boxed children's cardboard books

well it fitted perfectly inside the cover so i stripped the coating of the book's pages 

and gave a coat of gesso to all the pages. 

I wanted when you opened it to feel like you had come across an old treasure like a secret map, spells. The tissue paper that I have been making were perfect for this but you could use any type of tissue paper.

Although the I used 2 different tissue papers I combined them to make each page different.

And on each page a little piece of embossing of some kind has been added to just give that contrast.

This page got slightly damaged as the glue caught it but i Quite liked that so left it alone but looking at it I wish I had just blended it slightly. So tip to you all make sure your pages are dry before closing them as they will rip.

Finally all the edges of the inside pages were embossed, and gold embossing with chocolate baroque stamps was put onto the front cover to give a focal point and was all wrapped together with cord and beads.

Faux Wood with Lisa

Hi folks, Lisa here and welcome to my post for Tando Creative. This weeks theme is 'Faux Wood'.

I used a Tando tag, embossed with an embossing folder. I painted the tag with a coat of white gesso then applied DecoArt crackle paint. Then painted it with DecoArt Premium Acrylic paints.

Using two of the decorative hinges, I added DecoArt texture sand paste and painted them with the acrylic paints. 

To finish I added the metal embellishment.

Faux Wood week with Nikki

Morning all,

Today I'm sharing a 'weathered' painted wooden look with you, on one of my favourite Tando pieces, the lovely Heart 3d Round Basket.  I love the different looks you can achieve on this, there are so many ways of painting it!

I started by laying all the pieces out flat, and painting both sides with tinting base.  Some Crackle paint was added in thin patches, following the 'grain'  in one direction.

Paint was brayered, again in one direction only, in two colours, (a mixed up blue with Cobalt Blue Hue & Tinting base, and then a slightly watered down burnt umber.  This gives the appearance of weathered wood.  It's also nice as some of the white still shows through, to give it another dimension.

I also added with a dry brush, some touches of Blue Green, to look more like beach hut painted wood.

'Screws' were added by painting Tando elements in burnt Umber & Pyrrole Orange, and some Quin Gold added as a rust 'drip'

I ran my fingers down all the edges of each panel with Burnt Umber before assembling, to make it look more like planks of wood. 

The whole piece was finished with a few coats of Ultra Matte Varnish, to protect the board and screws.

I really had fun making this piece, and it's pride of place in my 'Coastal' Conservatory.
