Cracks and Crevices with Lisa

Hi folks, Lisa here and welcome to my Tando post for this week. The theme is 'cracks and crevices'. We all love a good crack don't we? or rather crack-le.... 

For this weeks theme I chose to work with one of the newer Tando products, the MDF artist palette clock. 

Here is my finished make...

First I gave the MDF palette a light coat of DecoArt white gesso. To create more texture and to add to the cracks and crevices, I covered the palette in PVA glue and applied scrunched cosmetic tissue. I did this a couple of times over the whole palette and 3 or 4 times is random areas to create different levels of thickness. When the glue had dried completely, I gave the whole palette another good coat of white gesso. 

I then applied a thick coat of DecoArt Weathered Wood around the edge of the palette and added patches of it in the centre. When the Weathered Wood had dried, I painted over the whole palette using DecoArt Crackle Paint. (The Weathered Wood creates bigger cracks than just using the Crackle Paint alone. But by only using the Weathered Wood in certain areas, it gives a range of different sized cracks throughout the surface.)

I then used DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylic Paint in Burnt Umber and Colbalt Teal to paint the palette. 

For the paint splodges, I used DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylics in Primary Yellow, Cadmium Orange, Green Gold and Colbalt Teal.

For the 'time 2 create' and the two paintbrushes I used the Stampendous Bronze Frantage encrusted Jewel Kit. 

I then added the clock mechanism but decided the black clock hands were too dark and they couldn't really be seen. So I covered the hands of the clock with Stampendous Aged Ivory Embossing Enamel.

Altered misted moodboards

Hello my dear crafty friends and welcome to my Crackle week post .
 This time I made three altered projects using Tando Media boards, Decoart products , Tando stencils and a lot of stamps from SinCity stamp company.
I also made a small tutorial for you. So enjoy and learn how easy those lovely boards can be made:

 Step by step instructions: 1.Cover three Tando Mixed Media boards with white gesso and let it dry.

2.Add a thick layer of Clear texture paste using three different small stencils. Use different Tando stencils on each board.

3.Remove the stencils and let the paste dry. It becomes totally clear when dry.

4.Cover the edges of each board with white crackle paste. Again, the magic word: Let it dry! You see the crackles when it's dry, not before.

5.Stamp all three face stamps using permanent black ink and white tissue paper.

6.Tear each stamped image apart and glue over the boards as shown with Gel medium over and under the stamped piece.

7. Glue the " hair" to each image: the ribbon, the yarn and the natural wool . The colors doesn't matter as we cover the hair with a thick layer of white gesso.

8. Mist each board with different mists. Pick the colors that fit the stamped image mood. For this pretty, but angry lady vintage mix of colors was the best choice.

9.Mist the second board with some shabby, dreamy  colors of mists.

 10. Mist the last board with a mix of lovely pastel colors.

11. Stamp the sentiments for each board in the same  black ink and tissue way. Natural beauty was the best sentiment for the " angry" lady. Dream key was the choice for the second one. For the bright board stamp " Happy Birthday" sentiment and tear the word Happy. Glue all words with Gel Medium. And this is the final project :

Cracks & Crevices by Dee

Hi everyone! Dee here with my take on cracks and crevices.

I used a Tando creative tag with lots of lovely 

Deco art products to create it.

I started by giving the tag a coat of 2 parts Treasure 2fl oz 

mixed with 1 part Delicate 2fl oz.

I followed this with weather wood in placed

that I wanted large crackle and dry.

The next step is to apply a coat of Deco art crackle paint.

Once its dry i put crackle paste through the heart stencil

and followed this down the tag.

I also applied the crackle paste to the edges of the Tag.

A very very watery wash just a dot of prussian blue hue  in lots 

of water this was brushed over the top of the crackle.

The script stamp was stamped along with Archival Ink 

Pad French Ultramarine. Burnt umber antiquing cream 

was used over the hearts and the edges then

knocked back once dry.

The indents of the hearts were painted with Media Interference -

 Turquoise and liquid glass was applied over the top.

Cracks & Crevices Week - Cracked "Glass" ATC

Hi friends! Dana here today sharing the artist trading card I created for the Cracks and Crevices theme this week. I started this card by adding pale blue and brown Distress Ink to an artist trading card blank. I then pressed a crackle stamp covered with black archival ink onto the card to add a base pattern. Next, I applied watermark ink over the entire card and added two layers of ultra thick embossing powder. Once the embossing powder cooled I bent the card in several areas to produce the cracked glass effect. I used my Dymo tape label maker to create a sentiment for this piece. Lastly, I glued this card onto an Artist Trading Card for added support to prevent further cracking.

Technique Week - Cracks & Crevices

Morning everyone,

Nikki here today with my take on this weeks theme, 'Cracks & Crevices'.

I absolutely love these components from Tando Creative, I used a media board, and hearts and wings, and the fab mini skulls to make this darker than dark piece.

I used DecoArt chalk paints and crackle to create the deep cracks on the Media board, and then gave a very dark wash of colour around the edges.  I stamped onto the heart with Andy's crackle stamp in paint.  Once dry I painted over the top of the stamping in black, this gave a textured cracked effect.

The Tando mini skull was given a rust treatment (Andy skinner technique), and the wings painted black and stamped.

I adhered strips of torn paper from an old book, and edged the tag in carbon black, and some stencilling, and edging with a posca pen finishes it all off.

Color Theme - Bird Joy Mixed Media Board

Hi! Dana here today sharing a mixed media board for the Color theme this week. I had a lot of fun with the Nathalie Kalbach Fashion Dame Stamp Set, the Nathalie Kalbach Bird Stamp Set, the DecoArt Media Line, and Stampendous Spoonful of Silver.

I started this piece by coloring the edge of a Mixed Media Board with a black paint pen and the top of the board with a layer of DecoArt White Gesso. I painted solid areas of color using DecoArt paint. Once the paint was dry, I stamped the foam bird image onto the board using black pigment ink.

To brighten the design I added splatters of DecoArt Primay Yellow Acrylic Paint and some doodles with a white marker. To dress up the background I used the trouser stamp from the Fashion Dame Stamp Set with blue pigment ink to add a lined design around the bird. I then sprinkled on Spoonful of Silver over the ink and applied heat to set. I highlighted the small ovals on the wing and the eye of the bird with DecoArt Liquid Glass. I finished this board with a Dymo tape quote from the new Big Wreck song "You Don't Even Know."
