Black Modelling Paste by Nikki

Morning everyone,

My turn to share a make with you today, and our theme was to use Black Modelling Paste.

I decided to do one of my favourite Tando pieces, a little heart shelf.  It lends itself to so many ways of decorating, and is very easy to put together, and very sturdy when glued, as it's made from mdf.

I assembled and painted the shelf with tinting base, and then a coat of Vermillion.

As I was on holiday, and had taken limited supplies, I had to improvise to get my top coat colour.  I wanted a crackle effect, but realised I'd forgotten the weathered wood, and chose to use chalk crackle instead.  I coated the orange with the crackle medium and left to dry.

For the top coat, I'd only taken one colour of chalk paint, so decided to mix some fluid acrylic into the colour I had, to make a turquoise.  I picked a bit of everything at this point!  Just be careful not to add more than 10-15% fluid acrylic, otherwise the crackle reaction may be affected. (This is not a problem if you were just mixing a paint colour).

When painting the top coat, do even strokes, and try not to go over a patch you've just done, as it crackles almost immediately, it's brilliant to watch!

The black modelling paste was then used through a stencil.  You can use black modelling paste exactly the same way as white or clear, and can paint over it if you wish.  But sometimes it's nice to use it as a feature, and it also makes certain colours pop when put over it, or acts as a contrast to metallic lustres etc.  It's a firm favourite of mine.

Once stencilled and dry, I added Copper Kettle Metallic Lustre on my finger, to the raised area's of the modelling paste, to highlight the skull and bring the colours together.  I also ran my finger around the edge of the shelf, to tie in.

Hi folks how are you all this week? I have a Tando 

tag to share with you today that i have used 

black modelling paste to create.

 I started with a coat of gesso followed by area's painted 

in the following colours Diarylide Yellow, Blue Green Light, Pyrrole 

Red media paint your tag should be like a patch 

work of these colours. Red media paint 

 Next follow this with weather wood in patches over the tag 

or you can if you want large crackle all over put it 

all over the tag and allow to dry.

 Next a coat of white crackle paint once dry follow with a 

watery wash of Prussian Blue Hue once dry follow with

 another wash of watery Transparent Yellow Iron Oxide.

 Using a palett knife apply black modelling paste to 

the the base of the tag and sides tap the flat of the knife 

on the surface to create little peaks. sprinkle both

Aged Copper Embossing Enamel, Aged Gold Embossing

 Enamel over the paste and heat set.

I Stamped Andy's Skinners skull stamp onto a white

 piece of card which I then cut out and glued onto 

a Tando heart. The area's that were free I put 

black modelling paste and embossing powder 

as well.

To finish off quinacridone gold was used to create the

rust effects on the tag.

Hello my dear crafty friends and welcome to my first June post in Tando blog.
This week we were challenged to use Black modelling paste on our projects and I used it the very first time as I usually just add black paint into white paste. But the black one works just perfect!
 I made the background with Tando Harlequin mask over Tando Media board and then heat dried  it the get some bubbled texture.
Then I used whatever was left to cover Tando Letters negative and to glue it over the board.
The golden colors was made with  a mix of mists as those mists usually have some mica powders inside and Bingo- you get this gold on black texture with mists only and no paints used.
Actually even the metal flower, metal sign, Tando chipboard book sign and the clay bird were only misted.
And you can see how gorgeous those mists look on totally different surfaces.
The edges were covered with DecoArt Media gold acrylic paint.

Black Modelling Paste - Love Rose ATC

Hi! Dana here today sharing the Artist Trading Card I created for the Black Modelling Paste theme this week. First, I brushed a coat of teal acrylic paint onto an Artist Trading Card. Once dry, I sponged on green acrylic paint over a floral stencil. Next, I spread a layer of DecoArt Black Modeling Paste over a script stencil. I love the contrast and depth the black paste adds to my design!

I colored the edge of the card with a black paint pen. Finally, I added an acrylic rose overlay that I embellished with a coat of glitter glue and a sentiment sticker to finish the card.

Technique week with Gez!

I am delighted to be sharing a creation with you today for this weeks technique week!

This week it's all about the technique! The design team will be sharing how they have used 'Black Modelling Paste' in their creation. I am looking forward to seeing everyone's artwork!

Today, I have a project to share with you using a [Mixed Media Board] 80mm x 116mm, the boards are greyboard and come in a 5 pack.

I created a base layer of paint before adding the black modelling paste using various DecoArt Media Line paints, available [HERE]

 

Once dry, I stencilled [DecoArt Textured Sand Paste] This paste creates textured dimension as it contains an ultra-fine grit, and feels a bit like wet sand! I tinted the paste black using [Carbon Black] Fluid Acrylic also from DecoArt. 

The texture paste is so much fun to work with especially as you can leave it plain or add any colour to it that you wish!

The stencil I used is the [Happy Chick] stencil by [Andy Skinner]

Before the paste dried I sprinkled a generous coating of Silver Halo glitter mix from the Silver [Frantage Jewel Kit] by [Stampendous] and also, multi crystal glitter mix from the White [Frantage Jewel Kit]

I love all the different textures and sparkles ♥

Juicy June's Colour Theme!

Hi Gez here, I am delighted to be sharing a project with you today using the brand NEW colour theme for June ♥

 These colours are just sooooo PRETTY ♥♥♥

I've created a tag ♥

For this project I have used the [Tag Art Kit] which includes a laser cut greyboard tag 160mm x 80mm, a piece of circular grid, a palette, 2 brushes, 5 paint blobs and the word Create. 

I have painted the different pieces with DecoArt Media Line paints, available [HERE]

There are so many possibilities with this kit. I think it is one of my favourites ♥

 I hope you can play along and enjoy using these colours throughout June.

Color Theme - Butterfly Mixed Media Board

Hi! Dana here today sharing the Mixed Media Board I altered for the color theme this week. I had a lot of fun playing with texture and this bright color palette! I started this piece by applying a base coat of teal paint to a Mixed Media Board. Once dry, I used a small sponge applicator to add dots of green acrylic paint in a random fashion to the board. Next, I applied a strip of felt tape to the board.

I colored two butterflies with ink and glued them together. I then added two buttons to the center of the layered butterfly. I further embellished the butterfly wings with dimensional paint. I added a puffy butterfly sticker, a sentiment sticker, and more dimensional paint dots to the board to finish this piece.
