Stencils Week - with Jan

'ello 'ello,

How are you all doing?

I’ve also chosen to play in the Stencils theme week, only I stumbled at the first hurdle! I created the background on a Tando greyboard square, with the stencil and some modelling paste, painted it with a very dark grey (slightly metalic) acrylic paint, black antiqued it, wiped it back, and used an orangey/gold guilding wax, stood back and loved it. Only then did I realise that I didn't like the idea of the Egyptian feel I had intended to do. But the piece wasn't speaking to me and I'd done my normal of creating at the last minute... a quick message to Fiona got us swapping our blog dates round... Thanks Fiona, I owe you one lovey 💓

I'd made up some of the new release bugs, they are such fun to decorate and look great on most backgrounds, but they looked lonely on the 4”x4” square! The foamiran flowers and then the little frame started to bring the piece together but what on earth was it saying to me? I sat with it while I looked through my stash of words...then walked away from it for a little while...

Like most people I had a little wobble of uncertainty over the last couple of weeks, and the thing that really helps me is getting out in to nature and I'm lucky to live in a small town with the countryside right on my doorstep. This make was leaning towards that... I'm also a big fan of languages, especially ancient ones. Runes hold mystery and each letter of the alphabet also has meaning, so I worked out how to spell 'peace' and 'healing'. And it was done.

Sometimes letting the piece guide you instead of not enjoying either the process or the finished article is the right thing to do.

Putting 'Triple Thick' in the wing compartments really brings those bugs to life.

and this is where I stumbled! It looked Egyptian, but not quiet... I love how the greyboard now looks like metal.

Stay Safe, keep creating, stay in touch

Stencils Week- Fiona Randall

Morning All it's a new theme here on the blog and this week it's Stencils.

For my project I created a small Plaque/ Wall Hanging using some of the New Tando Items recently showcased on Di's shows on Hochanda.

The base of the plaque was cut from Tando Grey Board Sheets. Stenciling applied using DecoArt Media Modelling paste and Tando's Long Flourish Stencil.
Art stones were then added in places using Gel Medium. Then the whole piece given a coat of  DecoArt Media white Gesso.
Next up Washes of DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylics in Prussian Blue and Quinacrodone Gold. DecoArt Metallic Lustre in Tarnished brass was the added to the flourishes and the Art Stones to highlight.
A Small  Tando octagonal frame was given a coat of DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylic in Burnt Umber and then swiped with the same Metallic Lustre and wrapped in Rusty Wire.
The Top Layer of a small Tando Dragonfly from the Dragonflies Panel was given the same treatment as the frame and the base given a watery wash of Prussian Blue Hue Fluid Acrylic.
The frame and dragonfly were then attached to the plaque base and a Tim Holtz word chip added.
The panel was then attached to another panel of grey board cut slightly larger which had been  given a coat of DecoArt Media Chalky Finish in Carbon.
I am quite happy how this turned out. Please stop by the rest of the week to see what the other Team members have in store for you.

Anything Goes Week - A little Challenge with Nikki

Morning everyone,

I have had no urge to craft for so long, and it really took some thinking to come up with something this week for me.  I was sitting with a couple of products on my desk (both white), and thought yes... make something all in one colour!  (Not my usual style at all!)

That gave me at least an idea, so I rifled through my products, and found modelling paste, structure paste, white acrylic paint, white pearls, White glitter, and clear glaze.  I was looking for white embossing powder but couldn't find it.

It's made much easier by Di's new products being so easy to use and layer up to make a little plaque, and I love the butterflies, bees and dragonflies so much, as you can fill up the wings with anything.

So my little challenge for you all, is to make a piece yourself, with any tando greyboard products, (doesn't have to be what I have done), and ANY colour of your choice.... but JUST ONE colour.  I will be easy on you, you can do shades of one colour, much easier than my white on white!  Use ANY product you have in the one colour..x

Post your makes in the Facebook Tando Creative Zone Group so we can see. xx

Here is my make:

Hope it inspires you to think outside the box this weekend, and use some different products you haven't used for a while maybe!

Best Wishes,

Nikki

Anything Goes Week- Rusty Tag- Fiona Randall

Hello All and welcome to another week on the Tando Blog. This weeks theme is Anything Goes

so I got Rusty with a tag and the new frames and Butterflies elements from

Di's recent Hochanda shows.

I started by applying DecoArt Crackle Paste to the edges of the tag and put it aside do dry and do it's thing. I then took one of the small square frames and punched a hole either side using a hole punch before applying some DecoArt Media Texture Sand Paste. Once this was dry I gave the frame a coat of DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylic in Quinacrodone Gold dried and then added a coat of DecoArt Ultra Matte Varnish. The Tag had done it's thing and it had crackled nicely. I then gave the tag and the top piece of the Butterfly element  a spray of Lindy's Stamp Gang Moonshadow spray in Mystic Malachite. They have a walnut stain base which I love mixed in with the irridessence of the mica which has a green tone. The base of the layered Butterfly also had a spray with the Moonshadow mist in Tawny Turquoise as did the backing of the small frame. I then added a coat of DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylic in Metallic Gold to a piece of the Tando Exta Thins Wire which I snipped and layered onto the tag base. I then gave the tag base and the butterfly a wash of DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylic in Quinacrone Gold to give a grungy rusty feel to the pieces and then layered up the frame with a bit of rusty wire threaded through the holes and placed the butterfly on top. To finish I added a little word sticker.

Thanks for stopping by today

Wings and Things - Heidi Green

Good morning, Heidi here to share a blog project with you today and here it is.

Hoping you managed to catch Di's shows on Hochanda last Monday. She introduced some wonderful grey board frames and insects to her collection.

I have made a hanging frame using them and some glorious papers I had left over from a project.

Products Used :

Tando Plaques and Butterflies

DecoArt Media Paint, ' Titan Buff'

Tim Holtz, Distress Paint, Peeled Paint

Daily Art, Crackle Paint

Craft O'Clock papers and vellum pictures

That's Crafty, 'Lots of Words' stamp set

Tim Holtz, Dusky Concord Distress Oxide inkpad

Versafine 'Onyx Black' inkpad

Posca White Pen

Glue, craft file, Cropodile, white card scraps, green ribbon and heatgun.

Method :

I started off covering the butterfly top and plague holder with Tital Buff paint, left to dry and then lightly covered with the Peeled Paint.

Then using the beautiful papers, I covered the small and larger plaques and filed down the edges.

Tear edges of a vellum picture square, edge with purple ink and stick down to top of smaller plaque.

Cover edge of butterfly wings and holder with crackle paint, dry with heat gun. Cover bottom butterfly with Dusky Concord ink.

Stick smaller plaque down onto larger one centrally. Stick top of butterfly down onto base, slightly to the right, showing off the bottom layer. Add butterfly with strong glue at an angle to bottom of plaques,

Stamp up words of choice onto white card, edge with ink. Stick down onto plagues.

Using a hole punch or Crop-odile, make a hole to edges of larger plaque. Thread through ribbon and tie knots. Add Posca to edges.

Place holder through ribbon, your plaque is now ready to hang.

That's it for now, enjoy your weekend and more craft inspiration to follow from the DT next week.

Things with wings

 Hello, Carol with you today.

Here is my Things with wings project.

The base is a 6"x6" board which has a background of acrylic paint, stamping and doodling with some washi tape added.  My centre piece is one of the new dragonflies - found here - I painted mine with some dylusions paint in fresh lime and chopped pesto - I added some doodling before coating in stickles…cos all dragonflies shine and sparkle…. my sentiment is from one of Tim Holtz stamp plates.

Don't forget to pop back during the week for more winged projects.

Project: Artists in Residence, Lockdown #3!

Hello Creatives,

Welcome to the first of our 2021 ‘Artist in Residence’ blog posts, Jan here, writing from the Tando Bunker for the Creatively Insane. This Saturday night blog is less structured than our usual Design Team projects and themes, its more just a creative outlet for the 'other' stuff we do. Stuff that interests us, stuff we've tried, things we've come across and general mumbling and ramblings. If you have something you'd like to share, I'm sure we could sort out a 'guest' spot...(I'd probably better clear that with Di...😂, but I'm sure there is something we can do...).

This week has been an odd one for me. I seem to have been very sensitive to any new 'news' or changes. Don't worry, I'm fine, its just taken me a bit longer to digest the new year and its convoluted emotions. I'm looking forward to looking back on these 'interesting times' and saying 'thank goodness they are behind us!' But I wont be wishing this year away, I will still be adventuring into whatever I fancy adventuring in to...

So, what have I been up to?

This. I did an on-line class with the mad and wonderful Suz Humphreys. This class is still available and was a lot of fun, very achievable and can be done as a card, a journal spread or as I have done, on a piece of thick greyboard (Click on the link and message Suz if you are interested in doing the class). You know how we buy craft supplies, get them home and then forget what we had in mind for them? Yep, I have a box of wonderful Tando greyboard sheets, that I bought at the last Mixology event (!) and wanted to give them an airing. They work just like canvas, I didn’t even seal this piece before painting, but are smooth, and look great up on the wall as a 'piece'.

Suz talks you through shading, loading brushes for the layers on the hat and robe and the technique for the beard (absolutely love how the beard came out). Then I added some of my own doodling touches on the Tando Inchies 💕

It was also the first week of the '12 Tags, 12 Ways' and we had a full class for the first session - faux slate. I thoroughly enjoyed being the tutor and from those I've seen, you all enjoyed it and created lovely pieces too. Thank you for joining us. If you haven't played along yet, click HERE, the tutorials are free and are on the next 11 Tuesdays at 7pm.

In the search for the perfect space saving unit, I bought myself some storage for my paint. I can't remember who posted up that they had one, but she kindly posted the link from ebay and I got this... When it arrived I thought 'opps thats a bit big!’, but as you can see it's well on its way to being pretty full. The upside is that its freed up two shelves in my trolley! How do we accumulate so much stuff! It's really two hobbies isn't it? Buying the things and using the things 😂. If anyone wants the link to the shelves just shout. They had several different sizes, and I would imaging they would customise for you...

Happy New Year everyone. Stay in touch, keep creating and above all, stay safe 💜. If you want us to look in to anything 'crafty' let us know, its fun to research stuff!

PS. Don't forget Di is on Hochanda on Monday, 7am and 11am,
with NEW RELEASES, that you are going to love...

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year to you all….

Carol with you today sharing the first of this years colour themes.

The colour palette for January 2021 is:-

this year I am going to be doing my monthly colour themes using the Tando Long Tags… found here…on the back of each tag I am going to journal the months events.

here is Jan's tag…

I have also used a butterfly from the grab bag.  I soaked the wings with water and then peeled them back before painting.

So, do you remember last years colour themes? I used the 366 files and folders.  I did say that for December I would do my dailies on time and on the back I would add comments about the events of that day…. well, I did it….

TFL today xx
