Ministry of Mixology - Door #3

Hi! Dana Tatar here today sharing a door that I created for the Ministry of Mixology theme this week. I used parts from the Andy Skinner Industrial Elements Set for this piece.

I first treated the chipboard with a layer of DecoArt White Gesso. Next, I painted the chipboard with DecoArt Fluid Acrylics (Primary Yellow, Red, and Cyan), a layer of DecoArt Crackle Paste, and another layer of acrylic paint. I dirtied up the pieces with DecoArt English Red Oxide Antiquing Cream and Black Soot Distress Ink.

Once the pieces were glued in place, I covered the entire door with a coat of Clear Rock Candy Distress Crackle Paint. To accent the keyhole, I added a decorative metal plate.

You can find the chipboard I used for this project, and a wonderful selection of DecoArt products, in the Tando Creative Retail Store.

Using Kate Crane's Mixology Journal for recipes

Kaz here with my Ministry of Mixology project.

In an effort to try and improve my health as much as I can, I bought a NutriBullet and have been making smoothies for my lunch. I figured that a green smoothie has to have more beneficial nutrients than a bowl of cereal! And, who knew, you can buy pre-chopped frozen fruit. It takes as long and as much effort to make one than the usual cereal lunch I was having!

So to help me vary the smoothies, I've made a recipe journal using the {Ministry of Mixology Kate Crane Journal}

I started off using {DecoArt White Modelling Paste} through the {Grid Round Stencil} and {Letters Stencil}. Once that was dry, I gave all the greyboard sheets a coat of gesso and then went to town with acrylic paints, pens and stamps, including {Kaffee Klatsch} by Natalie Kalbach for Stampendous.

I also used inspirational quotes I got from Pinterest to keep me going.

I can't say that it's improved my health, I'm still feeling as crap as ever, but I think it's good for my general health and having a spinach based fruit smoothie everyday can only help that. I love the taste - my fave is spinach, banana, peach and oats - and surprisingly, it does keep you full up.

The journal comes with the rings and you can also buy {more inserts} so they are very flexible in their use.

Birds inspiration with Irit

Hello my dear crafty friends ! Irit is here and it's my today's inspiration for Tando Birds week.

I decided not to use any chipboards here, but to make the art journal page with one Tando stencil only and some stamping around.
So today  I am going to shoe you the art journal single page made with just a few products.

All you need to make the similar page is a piece of good thick white cardstock from any company, one single Tando Creative stencil, DecoArt texture paste and Media line paints and a couple of stamps from Honey Bee Stamps.

This is not a tutorial post, but I  will tell you  briefly how I made this piece.
First I used Tando  Bird and Branch mask with modelling white  paste and made all textured images over the white cardstock.
Then, when the paste was dry, I added fluid acrylic  paints  to get those summery green, blue and yellow colors over the whole stencilled images.
I kept a few areas without texture to stamp later over them.
I stamped directly over the paint with black permanent ink and it's not a perfect stamping image there, but still pretty good for Mixed Media art.

And this is the gorgeous Tando mask I used here all over the page:
Bird and Branch Mask

To make the flowers pop I added white acrylic around and over the images and added some of the paint over the textured images too.

As you can see this is a real art page: flat, made with a lot of mediums and no " add- ons" at all.

No Return Mixed Media Board

Hi! Dana here today sharing the mixed media board I created for the Bird theme this week. I saw Black Sabbath on Sunday night and my ears are still ringing! The show was absolutely amazing. It was the first, as well as the last time, that I will see the band, as this is their goodbye tour. I was inspired to created this piece after the show.

I started with a Mixed Media Board. I added an uneven coat of DecoArt White Gesso with a spatula to create a textured base. I colored the board with Gelatos and Distress ink and added some stamping around the edge using the Nathalie Kalbach Bird 3-Piece Stamp and Stencil Set. Next, I added a row of rolled resin paper as a fun colorful base for the next layer of this project. I topped the paper rolls with a Mini Bird that I painted with DecoArt Carbon Black Fluid Acrylic Paint. I then added a trio of Mini Stars that I covered with a layer of Spoonful of Gold Dust. (The only thing more sparkly than these stars was Ozzy's shirt!) Lastly, I finished this piece with some Black Sabbath song lyrics.

You can find the chipboard I used for this project, and a wonderful selection of DecoArt products, in the Tando Creative Retail Store.

BIRD WEEK

Hellooo and welcome to a week of Tando birds :-D

I have used the pretty little owls from the MINI RANGE to embellish my project this week.  I have decorated one of those 12inch square mirrors from a certain store.

The background was daubed with paint and then stencilled over in white using the SEQUIN WASTE stencil(sorry you can't really see it in this pic)  I also used some Tando BUNTING to sit the owls on.  This was daubed with a mix of colours to match the flowers which were stamped and paper pieced.

The little owls were painted with acrylics to match!

Thank you for taking a look today.  Do pop back for some more birdy projects this week, Hugs, Karen x

Unlock your beautiful self door hanger

Hello my dear crafty friends and welcome to my new Tando post and this week it is Anything goes week.
So  how about a Steampunk door hanger?
Tando sells the most amazing chipboard door hangers and you can alter them to any kind or theme.
But sometimes  you have someone a bit Steampunky around you and that's what I made for this person.
So I picked the Door Hanger style A piece (one of 2 that are in the bag) and the fun began!
As a background I used Tando Cogs mini stencil  and Tando Giraffe mini mask with DecoArt  White Modelling paste.
When it was dry I added layers over layers of DecoArt Media line  fluid acrylics paints to make the background and stamped randomly with black paint using Stampendous  Toxic stamp background.
Then I painted the chipboard Scull from Sculls bag 3 and Key hole from Locks and Latches set  using the same acrylic paints with a layer of DecoArt Weathered wood medium and you can see the glorious result of this medium over the main chipboard pieces here. The key from Set of 5 keys was added to the piece as well.
I made the title with Tim Holtz small stickers and yes, anyone, even the scull, can be beautiful.
Don't you think so?

Nathalie Kalbach Urban by Dee

Hi everyone I hope you are well. Today I have a piece
notebook made using a  Nathalie Kalbach stamp
and Tando mixed media boards/stencil.

I folded Card  x 4 and cut to fit then painted with Gesso followed by
Deco art chalk paint, I set this aside to dry.

For the covers I used mixed media boards that I gave a coat of Gesso
prior to putting black modelling paste through  the tire tread
stencil to both top left & bottom right of the front cover.

I mixed primary magenta with tinting base and painted the entire
2 media boards once dry a coat of weather wood again when dry
a coat of crackle paint. I used the sequin waste stencil
randomly put black modelling paste through.
I also gave the edges a scrap of paste.

Once dry I used a media interference in turquoise and gave a
coat over both boards. The urban stamp had been
stamped onto stamping card and painted with watery washes
of green and burnt umber then cut out
and given a coat of mat medium.

Patina green followed by Black antiquing cream was used
over both boards and knocked back once happy i affixed
the urban skyline onto both boards and fixed in the pages.

Anything Goes - Wings Arch

Hi friends! Dana here today sharing an arch for the Anything Goes theme this week. I used a pair of butterfly wings I found on a recent walk, some of my favorite Chris Cornell song lyrics, and some DecoArt mediums to create this piece. I started with a Gothic Arch Layered Frame; one base and two frames for this design.

I painted the chipboard first with a coat of DecoArt Gesso, and then an assortment of DecoArt Fluid Acrylics. Next, I added some stamping and paint splatters. I finished the top frame piece with a coat of DecoArt Liquid Glass.

Thanks for stopping by today! You can find the chipboard I used for this project, and a wonderful selection of DecoArt products, in the Tando Creative Retail Store.

Splatty Flower Card

Following on from most of my other recent posts, I've made a card using another of the soon to arrive card kits:

I've inked through the {Mini Splatters Stencil} onto white card and cut them out. I've added water to the ink from the ink pads and added small splatters to the card blank.

I've painted some {Minin Flowers} with acrylic paint and once dry, added glassy accents to the centres. I've then added Bronze Glass Glitter fro the {Stampendous Bronze Frantage Kit} to the centres. One dry, I've used acrylic paint to colour them before adding doodles and a stamped greeting.

Garden art : Tando recipe week with Irit

Hello my dear crafty friends and welcome to my new Tando inspiration.
This is a TANDO recipe week and our recipe for this week is one square (the art piece shape), two stamps (Stampendous Kaffee Klatch set you can buy from Tando) and three obvious buttons over the piece.
I made it with Tando Bullseye  stencil  and DecoArt Modelling paste and the whole Media line from DecoArt that is in Tando shop.
Tando chipboard flowers from Flowers with stems grab bag  were just painted with black fluid acrylic paint and so were  painted the edges of this piece that was made over Tando packaging. What a great use and makes my Green soul happy!

Tando recipe week by Dee

Hi everyone I hope you are all well and enjoying the summer it is lovely
to be able to get outside in the sunshine as I work in a basement in the
bottom of a quarry so enjoy the sun when I am lucky enough to
see it LOL! Today I have for you my take on recipe week,
I hope you enjoy it.

I used the square media boards which I had given a coat of Gesso.

Next I coloured the square with distress ink applied with a blending tool.

I stamped the 2 images onto card and coloured with distress ink for
the clock I gave a coat of crackle glaze.

Once the glaze had dried I used carbon black antiquing cream
and knocked it back. I put paste through the sequin waste
stencil and sprinkled on silver embossing powder.
Which was heat set.

The edges were given a coat of crackle paste that was painted
and treated with antiquing cream. Treasure gold was used to
highlight area's.
Thats all for today folks please feel

August Colour Challenge with Lisa

Hi folks, Lisa here with my take on the August Colour Challenge.
And I think summer has officially started this week - finally!!!
This week's theme is the colour challenge. And with summer here, August's colour palette is just fitting.

Here is my creation...

I picked the Hot Air Balloons from Tando for this project as most people choose the summer time to travel and with the colour palette, I wanted to create a sunset background with balloons floating through the sky.

I decided to create a tag for this challenge. I chose a selection of Distress Inks to work with.

I randomly applied each chosen colour of ink to different areas of the tag making sure to blend the edges where the colours met. I then sprayed on water from approx 18", left it for a few seconds, then dabbed the water off with paper towels to create a mottled effect over the inking.

I then covered the tag with clear embossing ink and heat embossed it with clear powder. I completed this method twice to create a nice smooth feel.

I painted three of the hot air balloons with white Gesso, then gave them a coat of DecoArt Crackle Paint. When the paint was dry, I applied three of the Distress Ink colours to the balloons.

I then stamped the balloons with a travel ticket stamp from Lost Coast Designs using Smokey Grey Ink.

To finish, I adhered the balloons, the biggest towards the front of the tag, and added some ribbon and string at the top of the tag.

If you would like to pop over to my blog to see some more creations for the Tando Challenges, I'd love to see you over there.

Thanks for popping by,
Lisa x
