This is the colour theme for October

 

 

 

 

I have decided to use one of my layered tags for this project.

 

 

 

I started by creating an inky background to sandwich between the two tags. Next up I gave the decorative top tag a coat of DecoArt Media Tinting Base. I then used and embossing ink pen to to go around the frame part of the tag then I embossed this with Tim Holtz Distress Embossing Glaze in Hickory Smoke. I then stamped randomly over the rest of the tag with script and swirl stamps with Watering can Archival ink. I then blocked out some of the areas with the tinting base to give a vignette effect to the tag. I then applied DecoArt Media modelling paste through the Tando Mini Flourish Stencil to the corners. When dry I added washes of DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylic in Prussian Blue Hue to the corners allowing it to pool in the stencilled areas. I then glued the inky cardstock to the base tag before adhering the top tag to the base tag. I added a Bee Mould from Zuri Inc which was cast in resin, painted black and then some royal blue gilding wax added to highlight. A piece of seam binding was then coloured to match and threaded through and tied in a bow.

To finish a quote chip was added to the bottom.

January Colour ATC

I'm aiming to try and do more art this year, so what better than do things for the design team I'm meant to be a part of! I'm doing the monthly colour challenges for a start and I'm going to do a series of {Artist Trading Coins}:

I started by using {White Modelling Paste} through the {Flourish Mini Mask} and when dry, {white gessoed} over the whole thing. 

I then added layers of paint until I was happy (it took a bit, I'm out of practise). I finished with doodles, a stamped image and some words from a book.

Faux Fabric - Brenda

It's faux fabric week and I struggled to think what I could do when I remembered I had a faux linen texture paint effect in my little technique book. Out it came and eh voila a new binder was created with the linen effect on both the outside and inside covers. 

Once it was finished like this it is much easier to see close up and difficult to photo.

I wanted to keep this rather shabby looking so I used both Titanium White and Titan Buff Premium Acrylics with Traditions Glazing Medium. I mixed Titan Buff first 50/50 with the glazing medium and painted sections vertically then took a dry brush and gently pulled the bristles in the same direction wiping the paint off on the kitchen roll between each swipe. I dried it and them mixed the Titanium White in with what was left over, added a bit more glazing medium and repeated the process only this time painting in the horizontal direction

It wasn't easy to capture the effect on camera being a dull day, but here is stage 1 ........

.... and then stage 2.

I think my practice piece gives you a better idea of what the effect looks like.

Next I glued on some magnets for keeping the binder flap closed and added some texture with these Tando stencils and DecoArt White Modeling Paste.

When it was dry I spritzed on some water, dipped a small paint brush in cobalt teal hue and dabbled it around spritzing a bit more and dried it. Then I mixed some raw umber with water in a mini mister and sprayed some of that over and dried it.

I gathered some embellishments and painted the chipboards white and then adhered them to the covers adding all the embellishments .......

...... before having some fun with gesso and mixing my own paint sprays in cerulean blue, prussian blue hue and titanium white media acrylics. I finished off with white and burnt umber splatters and some remnant rubs.

Bumblebees and Butterflies

Butterfly Card

For our butterfly theme, I've made a card using another of the soon to be released card packs:

I've inked through the {Mini Flourish Stencil} onto the card blank and used {DecoArt White Modelling Paste} through it onto a tag.

I've painted the {Mini Butterflies} and {Mini Heart} with acrylic paint.

Once dry, I used spray ink and water to colour the tags, making sure that the colour got deep into the grooves of the texture paste. I also splatted the card blank with spray ink.

I've used #Stampendous Frantage packs to decorate the butterflies and heart.
I've stamped and heat embossed the butterflies with Sky Blue Embossing Powder and stamped and embossed the heart with Detail Capri Embossing Powder, both from the {Teal Frantage Jewel Kit}.

I've finished everything off with some doodles and used the black card from the stencil pack to surround the tag.
