Using Embossing Powder - Steampunk Cover

I am back again today using one of my favourite products, embossing powder!  Seeing the magic of heat embossed powder was one of the main reasons I developed a love of stamping and I now have many different types in my crafty stash for various effects.

I decided at last to get around to decorating my Tando mini mask binder which I use to keep all my mini stencils safe but has been looking very plain for quite a while...

The binder was first prepared using white gesso then structure paste was put through the distressed diamonds mini stencil.  Once dry I used Decoart paint and salt to recreate an Andy Skinner rusty metal technique.  Some gilding wax was also added over the stencilled texture and some versamark ink put through the cogs mini stencil and embossed with a patina coloured powder.  I also added some of the same ink and powder across the corner of the folder...

A number stamp from Tim Holtz was used to stamp versamark in areas of the cover then embossed with silver detail powder.

The ink from the versamark pad was then used to cover the larger cog and the winged cog.  Gold powder was added and heated, then whilst the powder was still melted I sprinkled in some of the patina colour as well.  All the other pieces were painted using Payne's Grey and Quinacridone Gold, then on the word some embossing powder was added to the edges...

Finally some more gilding wax was rubbed onto the pieces and then some metal embellishments added to parts of the cover.

Using Embossing Powders - Nikki K

Morning everyone,

This week is 'Using Embossing Powder's week, and I have used a Tando MDF Media board for my project.

I painted the board in 'Timeless' chalk paint, and whilst still wet, sprinkled Aged Ivory Embossing enamel into the paint.  I think this might be a new technique, and it works if you are careful with the heating, it doesn't burn the paint.  Although you might want a window open, it was a bit wiffy!  It gave a lovely background finish as well.

On top of this I used a Steampunk text stamp, and embossed in gold.  Over that I added a Distressed Sequin waste stencil, and embossed the Ivory again.  Taking a Tando mini heart, I triple embossed the Aged Ivory (just emboss over the top of it 3 times).  Whilst still wet I used  'Steam Pumpkin' stamp but only used the cogs from it, to press into the powder. 

I then had a dilemma, I couldn't find any wings in the house...  so took a Tando mini angel, and cut her wings off! (Mwahahaha)..  I embossed them in the fine gold, and added to the top of the heart.  Next comes a Prima watch fob embellishment from my stash, which I added an image to, and covered in clear embossing powder. 

To build up my hanging, I painted two Tando cogs in a very simple rust, just two colours, Raw Umber and Cadmium Orange Hue.  A piece of gold net ribbon was added, and some holes to the MDF with my Cropodile, it cuts through easily.  I threaded gold jewellery wire and a couple of beads and made a spiral round a paintbrush to hang the piece.

November Colour Theme - Tic Tac Toe Tutorial

It's a new month and with that a new colour theme! This month we indulge in a gorgeous pink and grey palette.

For my project I have chosen to work with this fab Tic Tac Toe box.

I have worked with tonal colours in pinks and greys, stencilling the box and game pieces in a variety of stencil designs.

The game pieces have also been painted in a similar way to the box, with pink colours being used for one piece type and greys for the other.

I have included pearls and crystals to further embellish and edged everything in metallic silver to finish.  For more details there is a Tutorial PDF for you to download *HERE*

November Colour Theme - Arches Triptych

Hello!

I am here today with my take on this months gorgeous colour theme...

I loved this colour palette and here is the project I made...

I decided to use some of my Tando arches in a different way, so put holes into the sides using a
crop-a-dile to turn them into a triptych.

The boards were all coated with white gesso first to create a base then some structure paste was added through the mini distressed diamond stencil to create texture.

Once dried I used quinacridone magenta, quinacridone violet and tinting base to create my background colours and then used the same colours with some more stencilling with the mini criss cross stencil and some extra marks using the paint with some plastic lids and old cards to create circles and lines.

To complete the background I used watering can archival ink with the 'Des Ronds et du Text' stamp from Carabelle.  Then I used the same ink to rub over the diamonds in the structure paste.

The wings were all painted with 2 coats of paynes grey and then sprayed with some pearl diamond sparkle varnish.  The hearts were coloured using sparkle pen and the largest heart then stamped onto.

Once these were added to the arches some words were used from Tim Holtz Small Talk stickers and finally the pieces joined together using wire.

November colour theme

Hi, it's Karen here with another of my banner pieces.

November Colour Theme by Nikki K

Morning everyone,

It's my turn for November's Colour pallette today, the lovely cool tones chosen for November.

I started with a Tando MDF Mixed Media board, I love playing with these as they are a nice size to work with if you don't like daunting projects!  You can  also drill holes in these and make them into tiny wall hangings.

I mixed up a lilac roughly from Dioxazine Purple and Titanium White, leaving a little unmixed to give the media board some different shades.  I then made the paint a shade lighter, and stamped circles and crackle all over, and edged the board with my finger and more paint to make a rough edge.

I took a Tando Mini Heart, and painted it in Quinacridone Magenta.  Over the top I lightly brushed the lighter lilac, giving a washed effect.  This was stamped with a Steampunk stamp with Paynes Grey, and the Tando cog and numbers from my stash painted in a lighter mix.  I stamped the corners with a barbed wire stamp.

Lilac isn't usually my colour, but it just shows you can still grunge it up!  I drilled two holes, added some wire and curled it, and of course, added a couple of little purple skull beads.
