Resist Week- Fiona Randall

Morning all Fiona here with this weeks theme- Resist.

There are many ways and techniques to achieve a resist effect in your project

and I have used two of the many that are out there to discover.

I have used one of my Layered Tags produced by Tando for my project this week.
The main cut out base tag uses the wax paper resist technique.  Wax paper was embossed in an embossing folder placed on top of the tag which was given a coat of DecoArt Tinting base. The tag was then sandwiched between to pieces of copier paper to create a sandwich. Then ironed with a dry iron gently moving over the tag. The heat of the iron melts the embossed waxed design and transfers it onto the tag base. The tag was then inked with Aged Mahogany and Rusty Hinge distress inks and gently dried with a heat tool. Once dry the tag was gently wiped back with a damp paper towel to reveal the resist pattern of the wax transfer. The second resist technique was applied to the top keyhole plate using the clear embossing method. Stamping was applied to the key plate using Ground Espresso Archival ink and a text stamp. Whilst the ink is still wet sprinkle on clear embossing powder and heat set. Vintage photo distress ink was then applied to the bare grey board. The embossed text resist the inking. The base of the triple layered tag was then coloured to tie in and all pieces assembled as shown. Elements were added to finish and the tag then layered onto a piece of Tando Grey Board cut to size. This had been given a coat of DecoArt Chalky Finish in Carbon and then stamped with black archival ink using a text stamp.
Here's a close up of the resist techniques used.

A fun project exploring the many ways to achieve a resist effect.

Anything Goes Week- Art Case- Fiona Randall

Morning all it's Anything Goes Week here on the Tando Blog.

Free reign to go wild and create what your heart desire's as long as it includes Tando substrates of course.

I've chosen to decorate a Tando Art Case designed by Birgit Koopsen to hold all my Pens and Markers for At Journaling Classes.
Handy for keeping all in one place and easy to grab.
I've decorated my Art Case in the style of one of the classes I participated in with my friend
 Tracy Scott.

Here's a side view of the Art Case.

These Art Cases are so easy to put together and can be decorated in all manner of ways.
A great little project and so useful too and easy to transport to classes when one day they will resume.
Loved how this turned out and yes I used pink lol.

Vintage Heart

Hi everyone Dee here with my make for the week, I have gone for a vintage heart.

I used a sheet of greybeard which I cut a heart out it is quite a large Heart. I thought that I would go for a floral theme as I love this flower stamp from Tim holtz's Dearly Departed set.

I used watercolour paints to colour it also grit paste and one of the lovely Tando book plates. I typed the word love on my antique type writer.

A touch of treasure gold and some crackle accents.

I hope you like it
keep safe.
Cheers Dee x

Love Plaque- Fiona Randall

 Morning All.

The theme this week on the Tando Blog is LOVE.

Using my go to supply of Tando Grey Board I created a little layered plaque with a Tando Heart as the focal Element. Some background stamping with a Chocolate Baroque Stamp and Transfer Foiling applied ( something new I am exploring). finished off with some string and a metal key wrapped around the heart, before layering onto some offset straws.
Not my Normal I know but I am continually challenging myself to try new things.

Project: Artists in Residence - Feb 2021

Good evening  Tando-ettes,

I hope you are all well and getting through the lockdown as best you can. I'm finding this weird time (with soooooo much time on my hands) a really productive time in my art.

Di has been really busy (in the Tando Bunker for the Creatively Insane) and keeping us all entertained with the amount of new products, projects and ideas (some of which the DT haven't even seen yet! but they'll be on Hochanda soon). We all seem to be bouncing off each others creative juices and its such fun.

I spent time getting my 2021 planner up to date this week. It's really helped me organise my head. I'm terrible with a deadline. Always have been. I leave everything to the day/night before, because that is how my creativity works its best. I do plan, but its all in my head. It means that when it comes to something like a facebook 'live' it feels more natural. If I have to read crib notes I tend to stall. It used to drive my bosses mad (when I worked in an office) if I had to give a presentation because I had no notes. Props is another story though. I love a prop, especially a funny one! and I love interaction from whoever I'm presenting to. If you've watched any of my Tando fb lives, you'll know what I mean... I don't need much prompting to chatter away about any old subject 😂.

SO, getting my calendar in order and prep'ing my next two Tando projects, suddenly cleared my mind and time and I was able to investigate some off my other interests.

Lou Withers (her facebook page) has been doing a daily 'Moodle' live on her facebook page at 12:00 and it's been wonderfully colourful and liberating. Its a Mindful Doodle = Moodle. Lou talks you through some semi abstract pattens, inks them and then guides you gently through colouring them. You are free to let your pencil and pens do your own thing, but she leads the way if you've never come across this form before. I've loved every one I've been lucky to catch. I haven't managed to paint them all yet, but they are something I will take on holiday with me as all I need is my watercolours or pencils, as I love to colour my own art, as they are unique. Here's the few I've done so far:

I've also discovered Jane Davenport in the last few weeks. I'm already part of Tamara Laporte's Lifebook classes (also on facebook) and am learning so much, but Jane is giving me a different slant on a few things. I bought her book 'Beautiful faces' and it's teaching me loads about proportion and placement (although I knew a fair amount - you wouldn't believe the problem I have with noses on a turned face!) and it's teaching me about shadowing better too. Google/YouTube them both if you are interested in drawing whimsical type people and animals. It really is easier than you think. Here's just this weeks progression:

I find that although my art leads me down one path - I'm really pulled to sketching and painting faces at the moment - it doesn't detract from my usual creations, in fact it adds a layer of learning, that makes the whole creative process more enjoyable. So don't worry if you are pulled towards a different creative process, enjoy the journey and watch how it spills over into other areas of your art. The 'new thing' you try may not be for you, but at least you tried, and who knows where it will lead. No learning is wasted👍

Enjoy your weekend peeps. If you are stuck creatively, maybe try something new. YouTube is full of videos to introduce you to something new.

Stay safe everyone

February Colour Week- Twinchie Plaque- Fiona Randall

Morning all Fiona here with a Twinchie Plaque for this months Colour Theme.

I created a Mini Plaque from Tando Twinchies with a Tando Grey Board base to attach them too.

i used DecoArt Americana Acrylic Paints to base coat the Twinchie Squares choosing colours that tied in with the this months colour scheme. Stamping was then added  and inking around the edges.
A 6x6  base was the cut from a sheet of Tando Grey Board. The twinchie squares were then adhered into place on the base to create a tiled effect. I kept the layered Butterfly simple in monochromatic black and white with a bit of stamping for the focal point.
A quick and easy project which came together in no time at all.

February colour week

Hello, Carol with you today with my February colour tag.

February's colours are:-

The base is a long tag which had some paper added before adding green acrylics.  Not really my colour, green, but, the point of these colour weeks is to push myself and use colours outside my comfort zone.

Mini birds were painted with orange. paint and then doodled with paint pens.  The mini flowers were given the same treatment.

Thanks for looking today…
