Product Focus- Twinchie Christmas- Fiona Randall

 Morning all Fiona here with a Product Focus Project.

I am really enjoying Seasonal makes at the moment so decided to create a focal piece using Tando Twinchies.

This is quite a large project but so fun to create using scraps of Scrapbooking paper from my stash with Tando Minis to further decorate the piece.

I started by adhering a piece of Scrap Book paper to a 12x12 piece of Tando Grey Board and inked the edges with Ground Espresso Distress Ink.

Next up I cut the squares to cover my Twinchies using a 2 inch square punch from christmas themed scrap booking paper. The paper squares were then adhered to the 25 Twinchies needed and the edges inked with Vintage Photo Distress Ink. Numbers and words were then stenciled and stamped onto the twinchies and coloured with Glitter Gel Pens. Glitter was then added to the Tando Stars and Snowflakes. The Tando Bells and Holly were coloured with Glitter Sparkle Pens.

The Twinchies were then arranged onto the board and Glued into place. Finally the Tando  Stars, Snowflakes, Holly and Bells were glued into place to finish.

A fun project with limited supplies but so effective when complete.

Colour theme week - Brenda

Welcome, it's Brenda here with the start of the December Colour Theme week and what a gorgeous palette it is.

Don't you just love the contrasting shabby tones and those pine cones reflecting the colours?

I decided that to do this justice I needed to focus on some colour mixing and I used one of my charts to record what I did. Of course it's impossible to say how much I used each time but I always add less than I think I need because I can always add more but can't take it away! But I'm pretty pleased with the closeness of the colour shades (from left to right) #s 1, 4 & 5. #2 is represented by cerulean blue and #3 is titan buff.

So here's my finished mini winter sketchbook.

Decorated with sparkly snowflakes on the outside and ......

 

With watercolour pages inside and two magnets to hold the flap closed.

Colour theme week with Brenda

It's a colour theme this week and here is the gorgeous palette. Winter is definitely heading our way.

I created a canvas board and used one of the Tando acrylic media boards, a Tando snowflake, DecoArt media acrylics and Stampendous aged silver embossing enamel.

The canvas board went through a couple of transformations but to start off I partially and randomly painted some broad brush strokes of white gesso over the surface and dried it.

I took out a palette of  cadmium red hue, quinacridone magenta, cobalt turquoise, raw umber, carbon black, titan buff and titanium white media fluid acrylics to mix and make similar colours as those in the colour swatch above.

Mixing the light blue colour first I made a water wash on a gelli plate and laid the canvas board over it to soak up some of the colour. I spritzed the gelli plate with water over the remaining blue wash)  and dipped the board again. I took some of the colour our by dabbing with a paper towel.

I repeated by mixing the pink colour ....

And then I knocked it back a bit and made it more ethereal by dipping in a watery wash of gesso.

 I found a really old wood mounted Penny Black stamp with this really pretty snowflake. Take off the protective paper from one side of the acrylic and stamp it using black stazon ink.

Remove the paper from the other side and start painting the arms of each snowflake in silver, gold and pearl metallic paints. I think I chose quite a difficult image so it didn't go too well ..... but I took a little cloth and dabbed on some surgical spirits and was able to rub some of the messy edges away without scratching the surface.

Next using a stipple brush dab over titanium white, titan buff and prussian blue hue on the back of the acrylic, I also used a little burnt umber round the edges which gave me a little frame effect. We will cover all the paint we have already put on the snowflakes.

When we turn the acrylic panel over the snowflakes in all their glory are revealed in the dark sky.

Once I knew what this looked like I could get back to finishing the canvas board for it to sit on.
Take the cadmium red hue, quinacridone magenta, carbon black and burnt umber media fluid acrylics again and mix shades to match the darkest red on the colour palette at the top of the post. Mix it with glazing medium and paint it round the edges of the canva board and rub back again. It worked well but was looking quite grungy so I totally changed the image. You can see with aged silver embossing enamel and some stippled blue, plus some blue and pink splatters it changed quite considerably. But that's what we do isn't it - change direction and follow our muse?

An embossed star and a grungy word band ........

 and I was ready to assemble.

Silently the snowflakes fall - Brenda

Hi it's Brenda here at the end of  'Embossing' week with a stand up card. 

I'm actually in Coventry today at the Ministry of Mixology event with Di and Tony and the inimitable Andy Skinner which also means I get to meet up with some of my lovely teamies too.

Anyway back to business. Di has cut me some boards the exact size I wanted for these cards and I used them last night for my demos and 'Make and Take', I'll show you that one later in December as it's another Christmas themed one.

With embossing in mind I wanted to use the embossing resist technique which I have tried before with the decoart media acrylics and with some success but ...........

....... I stamped the snowflakes over two coats of gesso with versamark and sprinkled and heated the embossing powder and then realised it was very sticky. Oh oh I had picked up the wrong powder, hmmmm what to do? So I got out my foils and thinking gold would look rather nice I just went for it.

I used titan buff, raw umber and burnt umber paints and blended them over with blending foam and scrubbed away with paper towel to take it off of the embossed areas.

When I heat dried the snowflakes the embossing reheated and I added more foil which brought it back to life - hey happy accidents are great aren't they?

I finished off with some snowflakes from the Tando shop which I painted with champagne gold dazzling metallics from DecoArt plus one die-cut and one punched and added some champagne coloured gems.

I knew that a quote from my lovely friend Alison Bomber who fit perfectly and I mounted it on gold and then on an offcut of canvas type fabric daubed with white gesso and tied round some rustic ribbon, string and a shabby bow.

I made a stand for the card so it can sit on a shelf or the mantelpiece over Christmas but I know this will go to a good crafty friend this year.

Snowflake Shrine

Here is my take on the Same But Different week using the {Shrine}:

I glued it together using gel medium and once dry, painted it with gesso and added a thick, rough coat of {DecoArt White Modelling Paste} to the roof and floor and left it to dry thoroughly.

I then used spray inks to colour the insides and built up the colour in layers until I was happy with it.

Once dry, I painted the outside with acrylic paints, then used snowflake stamps and white embossing powder.

I gave the roof and floor a coat of DecoArt Glitter Paint.

Finally, I decorated 3 snowflakes from the {Snowflake Mini} and {5 Snowflakes} packs with acrylic paint and glitter glue before fastening the largest 2 with a brad.

I did aim to hang snowflakes inside the shrine, but when it came to doing it, it was far too fiddly so I built a stem for the snowflake using{Grid Rectangles}!

I added a battery operated tealight to finish off.

As is always the case, the photos don't show off the glitter very well.

Recipe week with Irit: Cool friend card

Hello my dear crafty friend and welcome to my  inspirational post made for  Tando .
This is Tando recipe week and we were asked to use one stencil, 2 stamps and 3 snowflakes.
And it was a time to make some winter cards . So here is the card I made for your inspiration.

 I used Sunburst stencil with Clearsnap  Ice ink for the background.
Then I used Unity  Snow Way stamp set  for the main Snowman image and the sentiment using here other color of ink- Sky.
Three chipboard Tando mini snowflakes were covered with a thick layer of the same Ice color ink and as they are bare chipboards the color is pretty dark after all. I covered the ink with clear embossing powder  for some glossy effect.
The snowman image was stamped twice, hand cut and made into 3d figurine.

Make a Card week.

I'm kicking off our technique week, I made possibly the only card for Christmas I'll make this year:

I used a glittered texture paste through one of the {Set of 5 Snowflake Stencils} onto card and left it to dry.

I mixed some acrylic paint with DecoArt's glimmer paint and painted 2 snowflakes from the {Mini Snowflakes}. It didn't give enough shine so I added some glitter glue. I did the same with the star from the middle of one of the snowflakes. 

Once everything was dry, I stuck them onto the card blank and finished off with a greeting stamp.

A Hint of Bling

Hi guys, how are you? are you getting ready for Christmas yet?

I have altered some plastic baubles for my tree using some of the fabulous mini Reindeer and mini snowflakes,

The baubles came apart in the middle so I took one half and painted the inside with Deco Art white Gesso, when this was dry I painted over the top with some Snow tex, this gives a good coverage and yet also some texture,

I painted  snowflakes with Deco Art  silver fluid paint and when dry added some clear gems for the bling effect,

I painted the Reindeer the same way and also used some die cut trees behind again given the Snow Tex treatment and I added some gems onto those as well,

To finish them off I added a crystal bead string and a silver jingle bell with some metallic silver twine, they really shine beautifully in real life, but they were very hard to photograph, sorry!!

anyway here they are also shown on the tree, lol

I hope i may have inspired you to have a go, they were great fun to do,

Snowflakes card and video

I hope you have been enjoying all the sparkle on here this week.  I made this card using the ~{Set of 5 Snowflake Masks}~ and ~{Mini Snowflakes}~:

I made a video showing how I made the card. Watch out for me chasing the gem around the pack with tweezers for a while and then giving up and using my fingers!

Note the cheapo kids glitter glue - I've had it for years!

I also made a slightly smaller card using the same technique, but without the Mini Snowflake:

House Shaped Advent Calendar with Dana

Hi Tando fans! Dana here today sharing my House Shaped Advent Calendar. I had a blast putting this project together. My daughters are having so much fun counting down the days until Christmas, especially when every drawer contains a special treat!

I started by covering the house with some cozy patterned papers. I used the Joined Snowflake Mask to add some textured stars to the snowy scene on the sides of the house.

I smoothed molding paste over just the centers of the snowflakes on the mask, which was the perfect design for the sky. I added Mini Snowflakes that I colored with acrylic paint and glitter glue.

To aid with opening, I attached small wooden plugs to the center of each drawer.

I wanted to embellish the roof with realistic looking "shingles" so I used a die to cut patterned paper to cover the roof. I added some "snow" to the top of my roof and covered it with a layer of glitter glue to give it the fantastic sparkle of fresh fallen snow.
