Kit Week - Large Whimsical Birds - by Kim

It's party season and Tando Creative's new Large Whimsical Birds are all dressed up and ready for a night in the barn!

I ventured in to unknown territory this time - no, not parties in a barn - decoupage! I rummaged through some old garden magazines and tore out lots pages with bright colours. I chose them for the colours, not necessarily the flowers. I stuck bits and pieces on the bird bodies to make pleasing combinations. Any magazine will do - just tear out colours and textures not whole pictures.

The legs got black and white stripy socks for contrast. I used DecoArt Fawn and Burnt Orange together on the wings to look a bit feathery.

I base coated the faces with Fawn, the large areas of the eyes with white, the centres with black. The eyelids are Fawn, the eyelashes are Black. 'Cheeky Bird' got a little blusher in a pale pink (Coral Shell with a dab of Calico Red) for her cheeks, and some Burnt Umber speckles. I also stuck the extra beak section on a bit skew-if so it looks like she is singing along to the music.

The feet and beaks are Primary Yellow. I lightly sponged some Burnt Orange on the feet to 'dirty them up'. For the shading on the beaks I used DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylics, slightly watered down, first Diarylide Yellow then Cadmium Orange Hue

The background is Titanium White with Zinc blended up from the bottom in wispy strokes to give the impression of feathers laying on the barn floor - all being kicked up as they dance the night away! Some pastel coloured 'strobe lights' are sponged through the bubbles from the new Background and Flourish Stencils.

I glued the wings and legs to the back of the body. Stick your Party Birds on the background and they are ready to display. Make sure you pose them in their dancing actions!

Circles Week- Fiona Randall

Morning all it's circles week on the Tando Blog.

I love a circle or two or three.

For this project I decided to decorate one of the Tando Long Tags which was then backed onto a piece of Tando Grey Board cut to size to create a Plaque.
Starting with the Tando Long Tag.
DecoArt Media Modelling paste was applied through the Tando Bubbles Stencil.
When dry this was given a coat of DecoArt Chalky Finish in Everlasting and dried with a heat tool.
The tag was then spritzed generously with Lindy's Stamp Gang Starburst sprays in Galactic Teal and Tainted Love teal and dried with a heat tool.
Next up a spritz of Lindy's stamp gang Moonshadow mist in Burnished brass was applied and dried with a heat tool. The edges of the tag were then inked with a black archival ink pad.
Tando extra thins circles were then given a coat of DecoArt Chalky finish in carbon and dried with a heat tool. These were then spritzed with Lindy's stamp gang sprays in Burnished brass and Golden Doubloons and dried with a heat tool before gluing to the tag base as shown.
Next I chose two sizes of circles from the Tando Grab Bag of Circles.
For the largest circle I repeated the process as explained for the Tando Thins circles.
The smaller circle I repeated the process of the sprays as the tag base.
These were then layered with an off cut of grey board to give depth and dimension and applied to the tag as shown.
I then stamped the Dragonfly from my Sacred Rubber Stamp set with versamark ink onto black card stock and heat embossed with gold embossing powder. this was then fussy cut and adhered on top of the small circle on the tag.
Next I cut a piece of Tando Grey Board to size and gave it a coat of DecoArt Chalky Finish in Carbon then dried with a heat tool.
I then gave this two coats of DecoArt Media Ultra Matte Varnish to seal and protect.
Next I stamped with a circle stamp and black Archival ink all around the edges of the grey Board base.
I then applied the tag to the Grey Board with with off cuts of grey board to give depth and dimension.
To finish a Tim Holtz word sticker was applied
and small sequins added in various places.
Thanks for taking the time to stop by and read.
Fiona xx.

Anything Goes Week- Fiona Randall

Morning all it's anything goes week here on the Tando Blog.

For my project I decided to just go for it and throw everything painty and and Inky at it.

I started by creating a master board on 300gsm cardstock using DecoArt  American Premium Acrylic Paints in Primary Magenta, Primary Yellow, Green Gold and Cobalt Turquoise Hue. I applied with my fingers blending the colours all over the cardstock. I used the same colours to stamp and stencil over the top. Next up Stamping all over with a stamp and Black Versafine ink. To finish my master Board Spatters of white using a Posca Paint Pen.

I then cut a piece of my master Board Cardstock and applied to a Tando Long Tag. ( the leftover masterboard can be saved for another project) I then applied the same colours of paint to decorate the Tando Heart and Word Strip. Posca Paint Pens in Black and White were used to add the dots on the Heart. I then stamped the Butterfly and painted with watered down Green Gold and Cobalt Teal Hue paints and then fussy cut.. All embellishments were then added to the tag and to finish the tag was edged with black Ink.

Here's a close up shot of all the detail.

Hochanda Mondays- Fiona Randall

Morning all it's my turn to showcase a piece that I created that has been seen on Hochanda using Tando Products.

Today I'm Showcasing Birgit Koopsen's Fabulous Portable Art Case which will be showcasing again on Hochanda  With Di and Tando Creative this coming coming Friday September 13th.

I ran this as a workshop in April earlier this year and it was very popular. Everyone absolutely loved their Art Case.

Here is a side view of the Art Case open to store your paper and pens when travelling. It comprises of 2 inner compartments to take A6 paper sheets and pens/pencils.
Fold over the front cover to reveal a clipboard clip on the inside
A great project to make and so useful for keeping supplies all in one place and compact for your travels.
Don't forget to catch Di on Hochanda on Friday September 13th to see this on the show as well as other variations created the Tando Design Team.

I hope you have enjoyed this re visit. Thanks for stopping by
Fiona.

February Colour Theme

For this month's colour theme I've started with gesso on the {Artists Trading Coin} and then loads of layers of coloured acrylic paints as I couldn't get anything I was happy with. The best thing about Tando Greyboard is that it's so strong and can take a good battering. Once I was happy, I used the {Bubbles Stencil}around the edge and used a text stamp randomly.

I then used the small heart from the {Scribbles} sheet and sprayed it with ink. Once dry it had a thick covering of {Clear Liquid Glass}, finishing off with dots in Posca White pen and some words cut from a book.
