Rusty Butterfly Tag Plaque

 

Morning all Fiona Here with my first post of the New Year.

I am in my comfort zone for this project with a rusty grungy Tag topped with a metallic effect embossed Butterfly and a cog thrown in for good measure

Layers of DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylic paint were dripped and drabbed onto a Tando size 7 Tag and heat dried between layers until I got the look I was after.I then added some stamping using an Andy Skinner Vintage Background stamp for some extra interest using black Archival Ink. The Tag edges were then inked using black Archival Ink to draw everything into the background.

Texture sand paste was then applied to a cog from The Industrial Elements set. Once dry this was given a coat of DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylic in paynes Grey then swiped with Burnished Brass metallic Lustre once dry. A small washer from the industrial elements kit was given a rusty treatment along with some resist stamping. The same rusty treatment was applied to the bookplate and screw heads and black stamping added. I then embossed and die cut the butterfly using a Tim Holtz 3d Impresslit embossing folder from black 300gsm cardstock. This was then swiped with the Burnished Brass Metallic Lustre to highlight the raised areas. All elements were then layered up onto the tag using offcuts of grey board to give depth and dimension. The tag was then layered onto a piece of Tando Grey Board cut to size to which was painted using DecoArt Chalky Finish in Carbon and two coats of DecoArt Ultra Matte Varnish to seal. Thedges were then swiped with the same Metallic Lustre. A small piece of cardstock was cut to size to fit the bookplate and stamped before attaching and gluing to the base of the tag as shown. Two mini screw heads were then applied to finish.

December Colour Theme-Christmas Snowflake Cubbey- Fiona Randall

 Morning All it's Colour theme week on the Tando Blog.

 For my project I used one of the Tando Cubbey's

I used three colours from the colour swatch to create my christmas snowflake cubbey.

After assembly I gave the inside a coat of DecoArt Chalky finish in Carbon and then a coat of DecoArt Media Ultra Matte Varnish to seal. The outside was given a coat of DecoArt Chalky finish in Timeless. Once dry a coat of DecoArt Crackle Medium for chalk paint was applied. This was then dried with a heat tool. ( yes you can dry this product with a heat tool). Once dry DecoArt Chalky Finish in Honour was applied with a sponge. By applying with a sponge it eliminates brush strokes and the possibility of removing the crackle. This was then dried with a heat tool to speed up the crackle effect. 

The edges of the cubbey were then swiped with DecoArt Metallic Lustre in silver spark.

Next up a piece of card stock was embossed with a mini 3d Lumber folder. This was then spritzed and sprayed with Distress Ink Sprays in Chipped Sapphire and Old Paper with a little of the Distress Mica Spray Stain in Snow Flurries for shimmer and shine. This was then glued into the cubbey.

Next up a piece of old book paper was applied to a piece of card stock with decoupage glue. Once dry this was die cut and embossed using the 3D mini impresslits snowflake folder. The edges of the snowflakes were inked with Ground Espresso distress ink.

The Snowflakes were then swiped with the silver spark metallic Lustre to the raised edges.

A Tando  Snowflake was swiped with the silver spark Metallic Lustre and a brad attached to the centre. A small Bookplate was given the same treatment and a sentiment stamped and attached.

 The snowflakes were then layered up and  applied to the Cubbey with a piece of grey board attached to the back to give depth and dimension. The bookplate was then attached to finish.

Deep Book in a Box - by Kim

The Book of Shadows

This is an interesting shape, and I instantly imagined it as a wooden box, wrapped in antique leather to look like a mysterious old book.

First, assemble and glue the box ensuring a good fit with the pieces. Allow to dry thoroughly.

The curly trim is small butterflies cut in half lengthways and glued. Any decorative trim will do. The title rectangles on the book spine are Tando off cuts.

I only added ‘leather’ to the flaps and spines and avoided the expanded hinges. You will need thin tissue paper, I used the sort that is used for wrapping, and ordinary PVA.

Cut a piece of tissue slightly bigger that the panel you are covering. Use a brush to spread a good coat of PVA over the panel - avoiding the hinge. 

While the PVA is wet lay on the tissue - make sure it is wrinkled by moving it slightly with your fingers before the glue dries. With the glue brush make sure it is stuck down all round the edges, and tucked up to the curly trim.

Repeat for each panel. Don’t worry if you make little tears in the tissue, they won’t show when it is finished.

Let it dry - overnight is good.

Trim the excess tissue with a sharp knife and tidy the edges.

Base coat the entire outside with Lamp Black. Let dry.

Mix True Red with a little Lamp Black to get a dark maroony-red. Start with 5:1 and adjust to taste. The black is stronger so add the black to the red little by little. With the mix, using a fairly dry brush, paint over the black but leave random spaces so that you get a textured/weathered look. Let dry.

To bring out the texture I used Duncan Iced Espresso and Champagne Ice Metallic Lustres. The lustre is on the trim, too.

Base coat the inside of the cover with black.

Faux Wood box

I tried to match my ‘planks’ with a pine table at home. Start with a yellowish-beige base. I mixed Yellow Ochre with some Burnt Umber. It doesn’t matter if it goes on a bit patchy because natural wood isn’t perfect.

When you are happy with the base coat - and it is dry - use Burnt Umber to paint on the wood grain. Add some small black marks to the grain for added realism.

Copy what you see on a piece of wood you have - a table, worktop, or chair. Practice on a spare surface to get the look you want. If you don’t like what you see, paint over it and start again.

Book covers

I found some super hand made Gelli plate printed background papers, by Julie. I cut them larger than the size needed and glued them on with PVA. When dry I used a flexible sanding block to remove the excess - by sanding the edge to give a ‘blended’ feel. I finished the edges with Metallic Lustres. The expanded hinges were not covered, but I did wipe on some lustre. On the spines of the small covers I painted black, and when dry used gold ink and a dip pen to write the titles. I did the same on offcuts glued to the larger covers. Inside the book covers are painted black.

I opened only two of the holes on the outer flap after covering with tissue, and use a length of gold leather decorative thonging to hold it closed.

' Anything Goes'

I have used a Tando Large Cubbey for my project with a magical theme.

I assembled the cubbey and gave it a coat inside and out with DecoArt Chalky finish in carbon. Once dry I gave it a coat of  DecoArt Ultra Matte varnish. I then covered all four sides with some text themed scrapbook paper in a dark Navy shade.

I then stamped with a Stazon ink pad the mushroom and the Fairy Images onto the acrylic insert that comes with the Cubbey then set this aside to dry.

I then took a piece of white card stock and Inked and blended with distress oxide inks in two dark shades of blue using a mask for the moon. I then added whit pan pastel and blended with my finger around the moon to give a glowing hazy look. Stars were then added with a white posca paint pen.

 This was then glued to a piece of Tando Grey Board cut to size to fit the back of the cubbey. 

A small hole was the punched into the bottom left corner of the back piece and tiny lights threaded through.

The now dry acrylic insert was glued into place.

 The tiny lights were then affixed to the inside of the cubbey and then the back piece glued in place and the light battery pack glued to the back piece.

All edges were then swiped with DecoArt Metallic Lustre in silver.

Next up the pediment stand and top piece were given a coat of DecoArt Chalky finish in Carbon and then swiped with the silver Metallic Lustre.

These were then glued to to the top and bottom of the Cubbey respectively. To finish more stars were added to the inside frame of the cubbey with a white posca pen.

Quite pleased how this turned out and my daughter has claimed it already LOL.

Morning all it's Anything Goes Week here on the Tando Blog.

I love the Tando Matchboxes both the deep and the shallow versions.

They lend themselves to so many decorating options and I just can't stop paying around with them.

I have used the medium shallow matchbox for my project this week.

I started by applying Modelling Paste through my Star Shower Stencil to the top and sides of the matchbox. I then took one of the Matchbox inserts and  and applied the  Tando Harlequin extra thins to opposite corners and The Tando Flourishes to the opposing opposite corners.This was then glued to the Matchbox top. Next step was to stamp and emboss onto a piece of black card using one of my new stamps from the Sacred Set. This was then cut to size and attached to the the resin frame. The frame was then attached to the top of the matchbox. The whole matchbox was then given a coat of DecoArt Chalky Finish in Carbon making sure I got into all the nooks and Crannies. The whole piece was then dry brushed with DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylics. I used a mix of Dioxazine purple mixed with Silver Metallic to create a Metallic Purple shade. DecoArt Metallic Lustre in Goldrush was then applied to highlight all the high points. A fun project to create and this one is to store my bracelets in.

Morning All it's Gothic Week here on the Blog.

I love a Gothic theme and I love Arches so this little project ticks all the right boxes for me.

I have used one of the Tando Gothic Arch Layered frames for my project. It consists of five frames to layer on top of the base and gives real depth to your project.

I covered the base in some Tim Holtz Halloween paper as this gives a real Gothic feel to the background. next I glued and layered all five frames together and then gave them a coat of DecoArt Chalky Finish in Carbon. I then inked up the frame with versamark ink and applied sticky stuff embossing powder and heat set with a heat tool. This makes the frame sticky for the next step which is foiling.

I pressed a piece of pewter foil to an area of the frame  and rubbed lightly and lifted straight away.

 This gives a random distressed aged effect.

 I continued this step all around the frame until I was happy.

I then went over the foiling with a coat of Black DecoArt Antiquing cream and wiped back back to age the frame further.

I then gave a resin frame, cast from a Finnabair Mold a coat of DecoArt Media Black gesso and heat set.

 I then swiped over the raised edges of the frame with some DecoArt Metallic Lustre in Silver Spark.

I stamped the skull in Black Archival Ink and applied clear embossing powder and heat set. 

This was then cut and glued to fit in the frame as shown.

DecoArt Chalky Finish in Carbon was then applied to a Tando Bookplate From Andy Skinner's Industrial Elements set and the edges swiped with the Metallic lustre as used on the small frame.

I inked a scrap of white card stock with Pumice Stone Distress Ink and then applied a sentiment from one of Andy Skinner's Mixed Media Transfer sets.

The small resin frame was then applied to the Gothic Arch Frame using an off cut of grey board to raise and give depth and dimension.

The bookplate was then added to finish.

A quick and easy project and I love how it turned out.

Morning all Fiona here with this weeks theme 3D.

 I have used one of the Tando Ring Binders as my base substrate but I cut the flap off to make a book binder. Icoated the whole binder inside and out with DecoArt Chalky Finish in Carbon Black. I embossed a piece of 300gsm Black Cradstock with a 3d embossing folder. Cut to size to fit the front cover and glued into place. I then gave the whole binder a coat of DecoArt Media Ultra Matte Varnish inside and Out. I then constructed my centre piece using Various Tando elements and layered them up until I was happy. Then gave it a Rusty Patina effect and finished with some white splatters and Metallic Lustre. This was then mounted onto the front cover of the binder to finish.

Morning all Fiona here with my project for this weeks theme Anything Goes.

I love Tando Grey Board sheets and decided to construct a little shrine. It was so easy to cut and construct this little box shape. A background paper was created with Distress Inks and some stamping. The box was given a distressed effect with DecoArt Chalky finish paints and the background paper was glued into place. The edges were swiped with DecoArt Metallic Lustre in Burnished Brass. Embossed Die cut trims were given a coat of DecoArt Media fluid acrylic in gold dried then given a coat of DecoArt Antiquing cream in black and wiped back to give an aged finish. A Tando bookplate was given a coat of DecoArt tinting base and then glazed using speckled egg distress embossing glaze. The Tando layered butterfly base was given a coat of Speckled egg Distress paint and the top layer of the butterfly was ran through an embossing folder and given the same treatment as the embossed trim. The bookplate and the butterfly were then layered up onto the background within the shrine.  The wooden Finials were given a coat of paint and sanded in areas to distress. Metalic Lustre in burnished brass was then swiped over the distressed areas before gluing onto the base and the top of the shrine. To finish the word dream from a Chocolate Baroque stamp set was stamped onto white card stock and attached to the butterfly. I am quite pleased how this turned out. It is amazing what you can create from a few pieces of Grey Board- that's why I love the stuff.

Anything Goes Week- Layered Tag Plaque-Fiona Randall

 

 

Morning all it's the start of another week here on the Tando Blog and this weeks theme is Anything Goes.

 

 

For my project this week I decided to create a layered plaque using Tando Grey Board Sheets and one of my Layered Tags from Set 3. Two Grey board panels were cut to size and given a coat of DecoArt Chalky Finish in Carbon. The base was then stamped with a flourish stamp using Platinum Brilliance Ink. Both panels were then edged with DecoArt Metallic Lustre in Silver Spark. Next up the layered Tag. The base was given a coat of DecoArt Chalky finish in Carbon. The top tag was run through an embossing folder given a coat of DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylic in metallic Silver and then A coat of DecoArt Black Antiquing Cream applied and wiped back to give an aged finish, before adhering together. A Butterfly and sentiment were then stamped onto white cardstock, Fussy cut and then adhered to the tag as shown. Finally all pieces were layered up using off cuts of Grey Board to give depth and Dimension.

Reach for the Stars Tag

 

 

This week on the Tando Creative blog the theme is 'In The Stars' .

 

 

For my project I decided to decorate a Tando Long Tag with a moon and stars theme.

I used DecoArt Chalky Finish in Legacy mixed with a little Carbon Chalky finish to give a dark midnight blue colour. I applied this to the textured background of the tag the two circles from the Tando Grab bag of circles and the moon and  stars which I had cast from molds. I then swiped DecoArt Metallic Lustre in Burnished brass across the raised areas of the tag to highlight the texture as well as the moon and stars also. I then stencilled onto the larger of the circles with DecoArt Extreme Sheene in Burnished brass and attached the moon to the small circle and then edged both of the circles with the metallic lustre. A piece of brass chicken wire from my stash was then attached to the tag. Some twigs from the garden were given a swipe of metallic lustre before attaching on top of the chicken wire . Then the circles and stars layered on top. A splattering of DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylic in Titanium white was then applied. Word strips were then typed up on my vintage typewriter and attached to the tag base to finish.
